Our guests this morning are Barbara Ramsey-Duke and Lauren Nakano from the Blue Zones Project.

Barbara Ramsey-Duke is currently the Restaurant & Grocery Store Specialist for the Blue Zones Project Team at Beach Cities Health District. Barbara is very active in the community – she was the Food Chair for Host Town Redondo Beach Special Olympics 2015 and works with Shared Bread Ministry, Redondo Beach Arts Group, Hands on Art, Redondo Beach Historical Society, Cheer For Children, Redondo Beach Round Table and several other worthy organizations. Barbara loves her team, her job and her community.

Lauren Nakano is a South Bay native and long-time resident of the Beach Cities. She is the Director of the Blue Zones Project for the past three years and has been on staff at Beach Cities Health District, the largest preventive health agency in the nation, for the past 20 years.  Her professional purpose and passion is transforming communities.  Through the Blue Zones Project she has the honor of working with the organizations and individuals in Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach to implement an innovative community well-being initiative.  Lauren has 30+ years  of experience in the public health and social service fields with a bachelor’s degree in health science from California State University Long Beach.

This morning, we’ll be discussing the wildly popular Blue Zones Project and if you are not yet familiar with this world wide initiative, don’t worry, it will soon be coming to a town near you!
