Our guest this morning is Greg Long, President of TEN33 Disaster Preparedness Consulting.

TEN33 Inc. Disaster Preparedness Consulting is an Emergency Management and Planning consultancy that takes a different approach to Emergency Awareness and Preparedness than their competitors: they focus on the human element first, and then the physical plant and product, and leave the Data Protection and Recovery aspect to those in the IT fields. This allows them to focus on the area of Emergency Management that is so often forgotten, people.

Greg worked at Thomson Nelson Publishing Canada and his duties required participation on the Occupational Joint Health and Safety Committee. Within months he became Chair, with the directive to improve the visibility and effectiveness of the Committee.

In his 4 1⁄2 years as chair, injury occurrences dropped by approximately 600%, and lost time was reduced to zero.

Following the 9/11 attacks, Greg was recruited to the Disaster Response Planning Task Force to develop plans for Nelson. His first directive was to research Emergency and Disaster planning, find best practices and procedural requirements.

In 2007, he realized that more education and experience were required to found TEN33 successfully, and sought enrolment in Fleming College, Emergency Management Program. Greg successfully completed the Emergency Management Program in the spring of 2008.
