Our guest this morning is Rick Besaw. Rick was a member of the United States Air Force for six years and has been deployed all over the globe.
He is a Staff Sergeant with the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and is currently an Incident Commander for the Florida Wing of CAP.
The Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with more than 61,000 members nationwide, operating a fleet of 550 aircraft. CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90 percent of continental U.S.
Rick has been involved with the Civil Air Patrol since May of 2006 and in that role he coordinates with the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center to locate and turn off emergency beacons that may be activated on aircraft, boats and personal locator beacons.
Within his local squadron, he is the Emergency Services Officer and is responsible for the training and implementation of training plans.
Rick is currently working for a local government Emergency Management Agency where he is a communicator/dispatcher. He also volunteers for his city's CERT team in which he assists with basic training and scenario development.
Since joining the Civil Air Patrol he has spent almost the entire time providing training to its members. Rick has written training plans in an effort to spin up an entire short notice response force that can be operational within 2-hours.
