Our guests this morning are Kelly Stroman, Julie Hantzarides and Richard Thompson and they’re going to give us some insight today with regard to the Manhattan Beach Downtown Improvement Plan.

Kelly Stroman is the Executive Director of the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business Association and is a regular contributor to this program.

Richard Thompson is the Director of Community Development for the City of Manhattan Beach and is responsible for the planning, building and safety, traffic engineering and code enforcement operations for the city.

He was instrumental in the development of Metlox Plaza and laid the groundwork for a new permitting and inspection system to enhance customer service.

Julie Hantzarides opened Old Venice in 1984 with her husband and then 6 month old son. They decided to combine Italian and Greek cuisine because her husband did his apprenticeship in an Italian restaurant but also wanted to incorporate his Greek culture into the restaurant.

Now, that once 6 month old baby, is the executive chef. Their business motto is simple: good food, good value, good people, good times.

They are a family business in a community that has supported them through two major tragedies: first, a fire in 2006 that destroyed the restaurant and then the loss of Julie’s husband.
