David Lantzer, Hermosa Beach Fire Chief

Our guest this morning is David Lantzer.

David is Chief of the Hermosa Beach Fire Department.

He began his career in the fire service in 1987 as a reserve firefighter and was hired as a career firefighter for the City of Calexico in Imperial County in 1990.

David became a licensed Paramedic in 1993 and promoted to Captain in 1999.

He left Calexico in 2004 to become Fire Chief for the City of Holtville. David was then hired by the City of Hermosa Beach as Fire Chief in December of 2008.

He has served as President of the South Bay Fire Chief’s Association for two 1-year terms and will assume the office of Secretary for the Los Angeles Area Fire Chief’s Association in January 2014.

David holds a Master of Public Administration from San Diego State University and a Bachelor’s Degree from CSU Long Beach.

He is a graduate of the LAFD Leadership Academy and is a certified California State Fire Marshal Chief Officer.

David is currently in the final year of the four-year Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy.

David was born in San Diego, has lived in Japan and Arizona and currently resides in San Pedro with his wife of 23 years.
