This week's Thought:HERA

Hera, goddess of marriage, is well known as a defender of the sanctity of marriage and monogamy. Her most pivotal story is the tale of how she became queen of Olympus as Zeus’s wife. They had a honeymoon that lasted 300 years! After their honeymoon Zeus went back to committing adultery, and Hera, having once been a strong feminine figure of power and beauty, was so ashamed that she rarely left Olympus, and when she did, only to see if Zeus would miss her. The importance of this story of Hera is clear when you identify the change of characteristics and personality of the goddess after her marriage to Zeus. The irony of her tale is the main focus of who she was, the beautiful, powerful, radiant, cheerful goddess, and who she became; the envious, jealous, vengeful, sad goddess after marrying Zeus.
