Outside of leading the prayers in the masjid, giving the Friday khutba, and performing marriages, what is the role of the Imam in modern-day Muslim America? Should Imams address current issues of race, immigration, terrorism and sectarianism? Or should imam simply stay in the shadows, and not be controversial. Should Imams be leaders as well as servants? Or should imams relegate themselves to the role of a caretaker, or janitor for the Muslim community? Does the role of the Imam vary from community to community? Are Imams of our masaajid independent? Or are they simply pawns, controlled by the boards of directors, and other outside forces? Should imams speak their minds based upon their knowledge? Who controls America’s imams? This is the topic of our show today on The Muslim Review with your host Imam Luqman Ahmad on blogtalkrdio.com/themuslimreview. Call in number# 929-477-2385
