In an industry where at times style over substance is the rule, Howa.rd brings something fresh and intriguing with his first studio album, the 1st. The 1st features all original music written, performed, and produced by Howa.rd.
Howa.rd’s rich and soulful baritone makes his sound very distinct and almost nostalgic, immediately reminiscent of the soul singers of the 70’s. For much of the album, his vocals are laid back; a reflection of the introspective stance taken on much of the album. But occasionally, he brilliantly and intentionally comes out of his shell and delivers heartfelt improvisations that showcase his vocal versatility. The 1st provides an updated interpretation of old-school R&B and soul calling you to an earlier time where style and substance were equally important; where music not only made you dance, but made you think as well. As a songwriter/producer, Howa.rd pours from the many genres that have influenced his ever expanding musical journey. Whenever you think you're done figuring him out, he reveals more.
