I have arthritis everywhere and my doctors told me back in the mid-80's not to do anything on my feet that wasn't absolutely necessary. As soon as knee replacement technology got better it was recommended I get one. There have been numerous surgeries since; at least nine orthopedic surgeries in total. I declined the suggestion to do more...

Here is the number one lesson I learned from my experience. No matter what I do during the day my knees (and usually other things as well) are going to hurt. It is my choice to accomplish something that day or not. Since my knees will hurt anyway, why should I restrict my activity? If I can, I do. Sometimes I have to take a cane or crutches, but I still go and do.

God blessed me with the impossible. After the docs told me to sit down for the rest of my life I became a World and National Champion breeder and trainer of horses. For more than 20 years I started horses under saddle, showed, trained, judged, and made a career out of my love of horses.
