Los Angeles County now leads the nation as the region with the largest number of people at risk for hunger or food insecurity. Nonprofit organizations play a significant role in helping to relieve some of the food insecurity. On May 14, 2011 the Sarah Allen Women's Missionary Society of the First AME Church of Los Angeles will hold its bi-annual 10K Hunger Walk, to raise money to continue providing groceries (at no cost) to 500+ families each month.
