In today's broadcast Bishop Peter Elder Hickman discusses the messianic hope of Israel as expressed in the Ancient Hebrew prophets and the later rise of the Jesus Movement. Throughout the first millennium BCE there were an increasing number of prophetic oracles concerning the coming of an "anointed one" who would save Israel from all her enemies and establish a new age. At the dawn of the first century of the Common Era the emergence of an itinerate rabbi from Nazareth electrified the Jewish population of the ancient Near East and put into motion events that would change the course of human history. This would be the beginning of the Jesus Movement which would give birth to what would become the largest world religion, Christianity. Just who was this historic figure of Jesus of Nazareth that so many in the ancient world, both among Jews and Greeks, would claim to be the long expected Messiah of the Hebrew Prophets? Is Jesus this "anointed One" whom God would send to bring salvation to Israel? Join Bishop Peter as he examines these very important biblical and historical questions.
