What does the bible really reveal about tithing?

Jesus stated in His teaching to the Pharisees: 

“But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.” (Luke 11:42)

Paul in his letter to the Corinthian church wrote:

• 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cor 9:7)

Prescribed by God, the tithe is giving a percentage of what one has. Willful generosity is a virtue Paul says that pleases God.
