It is unfortunate that to most people, Chinese Astrology is no more than a reference to an animal symbol for a person's year of birth. Meaning is supposed to be derived from the idea that someone was born in the year of the Rabbit, or Dragon, or Ox, etc. What makes it more meaningless is the fact that the animals have no symbolic or metaphoric association to the characters of people. The "animal" of the year is associated to one of 10 "elements"--modalities of the life-force (Qi)that determine the way we think, emote and function psychologically, physiologically, and physically. The true Chinese Astrology, like western astrology, is based on the erection of a chart based on a person's birth year, month, day and time. Since each of the 10 elements alternate hourly, daily, monthly and yearly (as well as every decade), a chart will reveal a combination of the 10 modalities of Qi (the life-force) that determine and control a person's life. These energies control the five primer areas of a peron's life--friends, creativity and productivity, wealth, status and resources. Bazi astrology has proven itself to be a superior tool that shows which energy is behind these areas in a person's life, thus allowing the person to manage the energy that produces the effects in their lives--yes, it is best to manage your energy to manage the affairs of your life. The system works hands in hands with Feng Shui, Qi gong and Chinese Medicine.
