Ra Un Nefer Amen, author of the Metu Neter, interviews Hehi Metu Ra Enkhamit on his book African Names, The Ancient Egyptian Keys to Unlocking your Power and Destiny. The name (the Ren part of the spirit in Ancient Egyptian spiritual science) plays a key role in a person’s realization of their destiny. Unlike the Greek approach (the Pythagorean System) that purports to discover a person’s life path from the person’s given name—after the fact that a name has been given—the African (ancient Egyptian) approach works first to establish the child’s life path, usually through an oracle and from that, to pick a name that will promote the path. The suitability of the name in promoting the person’s destiny (or portion thereof, given that the name might need to be changed as the person ascends the spiritual or social ladder) will also be verified by the oracle. In African Names, Mr. Enkamit gives clear instructions on the use of the Metu Neter oracle system for consulting on the name, and provides a lexicon of ancient Egyptian ‘name parts’ that are to be used in putting the name together. He also describes in full the process of performing a naming ceremony aimed at involving the community—living and ancestral—to participate in the welcoming of the person into the community. Your name is not a mere handle or tag. It plays a major role in linking you to your ancestry and your spiritual path. Join us and share the experiences that you have had in the manifestation of your spiritual name—from any and all traditions.
