On July 14th, 2018, Harith Augustus, a 37 year old barber who worked in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago, was shot dead by Chicago Police after four of them attempted to make a Terry investigative stop on him. Augustus apparently resisted, became combative and ran from the officers. As he ran away, he reached for and began to grip a semi-automatic pistol carried in a hip holster on his right side hip. He was then shot dead by the police officers. The video would seem to corroborate a text book justification for the use of deadly force by police officers against a lethally armed suspect.
Nonetheless, a series of distubances and clashes by protestors against the CPD ensued, with accompanying injuries and arrests to police officers and demonstraters. The rumor mill was working overtime, with utterly false narratives of the event, before the body cam video was rapidly released by CPD Superintendant Eddie Johnson.
