Minstrel and Muse has a conversation with SONIA KHALEEL, an indie pop/rock artist based in Chicago who has just released her debut album Shark which the Indie Rock Cafe chose as one of their favorite of 2013.  She presents an ever-surprising mix of sounds and styles, combining 50s doo-wop, 80s rock, and early 90s ska. We'll play the music.

She started out as the lead singer for the R&B/Soul band, “Pasquale.” With this band, Khaleel refined her songwriting skills with the talented soul guitarist Aaron Patterson. In February 2010, the two released the band's 7 song EP entitled Cardiology.

Khaleel, also an avid painter, created all album art for her debut release.

SONIA KHALEEL is a force to be reckoned with in the indie music community, and her confidence while expressing fragile emotions through creative and powerful melodies is evidence that her musical career will be enduring.
