Girls Life with Lisa McClendon has partnered with the Charlotte Mecklenburg school and the Charlotte YMCA Junior Achievers, to provide mentoring and guidance to girls ages 8-18. Girls LIFE with Lisa McClendon was created to be an arm reach of hope for girls around the globe.  "There are many things that trouble our girls today, sexual abuse, abandonment/rejection and poor self image.  It is our belief that these things with countless others are the reasons for teenage pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse and violent behavior.  Our girls lack mentors.  They lack motivation and will power, because there is a shortage of guidance from the elder women," says Lisa. Throughout history the elder women have been vital to the success of the younger woman. GL was designed to empower girls from all walks of life with uniquely designed programs that are not only empowering but lots of FUN!

FLY Conversation with Annette Johnson, The FLY Coach

    in Self Help

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Tune in for an enligthening and educating conversation on domestic violence.  Do you know how to identify the signs of abuse?  Are you aware of the resources available to help women and their children?  Have you educated your daughters and sons on this topic?  The FLY Coach is dedicating both shows to this very important topic in October.  Men physically abuse over 4 million women each year – it’s happening in High School and Colleges. My mission is to use my voice to help raise awareness and take away the silence that often follows the words "Domestic Violence".  My guest is taking the lead.

Cynthia founded S.O.F.I.A., a non-profit 501©3 organization based in Montclair New Jersey, after she met Joanne Paul at a township meeting. Her abusive and violent boyfriend gunned down Joanne’s daughter, Monica, at the Montclair YMCA.  He killed Monica in front of their children and other families while they were taking swimming lessons. In 2009, S.O.F.I.A. or Start Out Fresh Intervention Advocates was created to breathe new life for women and children of Domestic Violence.  S.O.F.I.A. is focused on helping those who have experienced Domestic Violence become self-sufficient, positive and successful. S.O.F.I.A. offers a variety of workshops that encourage advocacy and outreach, a Support Group for those who have experienced Domestic Violence, presentations on Bullying, Self Defense Conflict Avoidance for children and Self-esteem sessions for women and children.

Knowledge is power and taking action on the knowledge you gain is empowering......

Reflections: Yamas of Yoga Part 2

    in Spirituality

    10/2/14 4:00pm Central Time

Many seem to believe that Yoga is just something people do at the local YMCA or other health club for a hour a day a few days a week, but they fail to see the larger picture. Yoga has great health benefits, and is a wonderful aid for strength and flexibility training. Yet, yoga is also a spiritual system in itself that has much to offer people in their daily lives.

Yamas are ways of being. In core they focus on disclipline, and self control.

    Ahimsa  Nonviolence.
    Satya truthfulness
    Asteya non-stealing
Brahmacharya  being constantly aware of the universe
    Kshama  forgiveness,
    Dhriti  patience,
    Daya compassion
    Arjava honesty,
    Mitahara  moderate appetite
    Shaucha  purity,
