    Tune in Tuesday and Thursday
Women-owned businesses are one of the fastest growing sectors of our nation’s economy, and even during the economic downturn of the last few years, have been one of the key job creation engines in communities across the country,” SBA Administrator Karen Mills said.
Most governmental agencies and large corporations have programs for doing business with women owned small businesses.  In order to participate in these programs, your business must be “certified” as women owned and managed.  Obtaining certification can be an important business development strategy for women business owners.  There are several entities that provide this certification, although they use very similar criteria.

    in Business

On this week’s show, Eileen Kent features the SBA Regional Director for the Midwest Region of the Small Business Administration, Marianne O’Brien Markowitz.  This key contact, Eileen describes as an agency “stakeholder” and Marianne discusses the responsibility of the Small Business Administration and how they help small businesses with federal contracting. Ms. O'Brien Markowitz also introduces the Business Cluster Initiative, which is connecting like-minded companies in each region which could be a great place for you to network locally.
Eileen also covers small business designations such as 8a, SDVOSB, HubZone, VOSB, WOSB and why  having those preferences – or at least having teaming partners with those preferences – help you win federal opportunities.
On a final note, Eileen Kent discusses why Independence Day week is an important time for federal contractors and how they can reach out to their customers in a positive manner during this time.
