If you've been working the web for any length of time, then you know the search engines frown on what is known as "Black Hat" techniques. This technology has been used to exploit search engine algorithms since the first search engines appeared. The reason black hatting used to be popular was because it could move your website onto Page 1 in a hurry. Before the turn of the century, black hatting was practically a requirement, since the practice was so prevalent. However, during the past few years, search engine operators have designed their spiders to search and destroy anyone employing black hat techniques. In fact, the past half dozen updates on Google have been designed specifically to crack down sites that were using these techniques. This has resulted in a number of sites being either delisted or even black listed. The problem is that most people still don't understand where the line in the sand has been drawn regarding black hat practices and technology. So in this episode we're going to show you who is wearing a black hat on the Wild Wild Web. We'll also review some of the more common black hat-like techniques that can get you into trouble so you'll know to avoid doing them.

Though only in her 20's, singer-songwriter Megan Slankard has independently sold nearly 30,000 copies of four independently released CDs. Megan’s newest release, A Token Of The Wreckage (Spring 2011), is "an edgy alt-rock release that is a breath of fresh air" (Maverick Magazine), “gleaming, grooving, and gritty” (Minor 7th), with "thoughtful construction and clever wordplay" (Performer Magazine). The CD, which was recorded with help from David Bryson (Counting Crows) and Jerry Becker (Train), held a spot in the 10-best selling albums on CD Baby for weeks. In addition to 12 new songs, the CD also includes Megan’s first official music video, written and directed by Matthew Ward. The video has earned 18,000 plays on Vimeo and You Tube combined. Megan and her music have appeared on TLC’s “What Not To Wear”, which generated purchases by TV viewers that placed her CD “Freaky Little Story” on the #5 spot on Amazon.com CD sales charts and on the Top-10 Rock Bestseller list on CDBaby.com. Because of the episode’s popularity, the show’s producers featured her in a follow-up episode a year later, bringing “Freaky Little Story” and her third release, “A Little Extra Sun” back into the Top-10.* Megan has started a new project " inDIYe". A new series features interviews and silly sketches with independent musicians. Take a look inside the lives of your favorite indie artists. We're always jazzed to have a fellow geek on the show, but it's great when they've got a cause, too!
Here's a blurb from Kasi Jammeh's web comic at www.hawtflash.net
"The Adventures of Hawt Flash and Solara is a web comic that follows two super women as they discover what happens when the hormonal changes come. Chris Jefferstein, aka Hawt Flash, is the first one to go through perimenopause. Jade, aka Solara, is Chris’ best friend and helps Chris figure out that the changes are giving her superpowers. The story is about friendship, menopause, superheroism and a lot more."
But trust me, Kasi is also a super-geek. She's got the Voltron toys to prove it!
Listen in and find out what makes her tick ...
