According to Corience: An Independent European Platform on Congenital Heart Defects, " As many as 40–60% of children with congenital heart defects are undernourished.
Healthy babies double their weight in 6 months; however, children with congenital heart defects put on weight more slowly. Their growth is also affected by the heart defect.
Why do children with congenital heart disease not grow as other children do? The answer is because the heart defect makes them need more energy. Their diagnosis might also complicate feeding for several different reasons. Heart failure makes them too tired to feed. Some of them might have trouble keeping down their feeds. Others seem to have difficulty in coordinating breathing and nursing.
This episode will investiage what kinds of equipment might be needed to help a babe with a congenital heart defect if that baby cannot nurse or feed normally. Listen as one mother shares her experience with her baby -- who needed a feeding tube. We'll also talk with a clinical psychologist who specializes in early infancy and childhood as well as eating disorders and tube feeding. She works for the NoTube Limited Liability Corporation, which was founded to help children all over the world to overcome the severe condition of tube dependency. Discover how one mother and a company over six thousand miles apart helped one little boy wean successfully from his feeding tube without ever leaving home!
As the clock ticks down to the weaning hour of NBA free-agency, the da streets are buzzing in Cleveland about "The King's Return." Let us know in the aslum with ya cell-mates El-Boogie and T-Ro. Tell a friend, to tell a friend, to tell a whole bunch of girlfriends." WE ARE DA STREETS OF THE SPORTS TALK WORLD!!!!'
You would think that breastfeeding is easy considering most of us have put our boobs in someone's mouth at one point or another.
Just because the mechanics seem obvious, it doesn't mean breastfeeding is free of complications. We all can't look like Madonna and child, especially because those pointy bras are hard to come by.
In this episode Toni interviews Grace Aldrich, and together they explore the ins and outs of breastfeeding, point the listeners towards resources, and also describe their own experiences.
Join Intuitive Mom Ann O'Brien as she interviews Brooke Kochel about the more spiritual, less talked about aspects of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding produces amazing love hormones, balances the chakras, and forms a sacred bond between mother and child. It also impacts sex and family life, and can bring up struggles for the everyday mom. We'll also cover topics such as social expectations, nursing in public, breastfeeding and weaning older children, transitioning to nutritional foods, and even breastmilk ice cream!
Brooke Kochel is the owner of Bendi Baby which makes yoga mats for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. She holds a Masters Degree in Child Development and is a yoga teacher trained under Shiva Rea. Named Best Midwife & Best Doula by Dallas Child Magazine, she's taught mindful birth, breastfeeding and parenting to hundreds of mamas in the last 13 years. She's passionate about natural family living and promoting spiritual motherhood.

B.L.I.F. Network presents Renewing Word Scripture Study with our host Evangelist Owen Bruce and his guests. The principle of God forming and putting people in the place where He wants them is evident throughout the Bible starting with Adam in Genesis chapter 2. We continue this series by looking at what God had planned for Peter’s life as outlined in John chapter 21 verses 14 to 21. As God placed Adam to care for the Garden of Eden, we see how Peter was called to care for God`s people. Examining some of the passages from the two epistles of Peter helps us to see how God’s purpose was fulfilled in Peter`s life as well as guiding us to fulfill God`s purpose for our lives, even through the trials we face.
``Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through and more, learn to think like him. Think of your sufferings as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way. Then you’ll be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want.`` (1 Peter 4:1-2, The Message Bible)

Our fasting quote of encouragement today is from Thomas Jefferson. He said: "Fasting and prayer are religious exercises; the enjoining them, an act of discipline. "
Our fasting devotional today is titled "PHYSICAL PREPARATION TO FAST" from Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ.
Although fasting is primarily a spiritual discipline, it begins in the physical realm. You should not fast without specific physical preparation.
If you plan on fasting for several days, you will find it helpful to begin by eating smaller meals before you abstain altogether. Resist the urge to have that "last big feast" before the fast. Cutting down on your meals a few days before you begin the fast will signal your mind, stomach, and appetite that less food is acceptable.
Some health professionals suggest eating only raw foods for two days before starting a fast. I also recommend weaning yourself off caffeine and sugar products to ease your initial hunger or discomfort at the early stages of your fast.

The Renegade Farmer is pleased to interview Annette Cottrell, co-author of the Urban Farm Handbook.
Cottrell started her SustainableEats blog in 2009 as a way to document her mid life food crisis. One of her young sons refused to eat anything but processed snack foods while the other consistently confused potatoes with tomatoes. As a result, Annette swore to avoid grocery stores for a year in an effort to connect her children with recognizable local foods. During the year that followed, she rebuilt her family’s diet around home-made, nutrient-dense foods, many of them grown in her densely-planted urban lot in Seattle or sourced from local farmers and ranchers.
The Urban Farm Handbook, co-authored with journalist Joshua McNicols, was a natural progression from her blog. It uses personal success stories, charts, grocery lists, recipes, and more to help readers choose options and make a game plan for weaning themselves off of the commercial supermarket.
Throughout The Urban Farm Handbook you’ll find “Opportunities for Change”— steps you can take to achieve a more sustainable urban kitchen, whether it’s simply shifting your buying dollars from one type of market to another, ripping out your front lawn, or getting those dairy goats you always wanted.
If you've ever wanted to know how to gain freedom from the supermarket culture--no matter where you live--this show's fo you!
