Your always curious host read the NY Times editorial stating that the American people must get stoned or at least have the opportunity to do same. Compare it to the original Prohibition and then to the changes being experienced in Colorado, soon Washingtin when the 1st numbers are in and within the next year, more than likely Oregon and Alaska as it pertains to crime, taxation and incarceration...voila freedom. Best thing that ever happened to Alaska...Sarah Palin mellowing out with a bong. And impeach the President for what...being black, being a Democrat, not being a Republican, having an IQ higher than his she size; get a grip cons.

On the next edition of Fiber Hooligan (04/28/14) my guest will be Laura Zander of Jimmy Beans Wool. Originally from North Carolina, Laura earned a Master's in Poli Sci but switched gears while earning her PhD to computer programming (a favorite subject of hers). After lots of hard work, she landed a software developing job in Palo Alto, which is where Laura met her future husband, Doug! Wanting a change from the hectic pace of Silicon Valley, they moved to scenic Tahoe where Laura started to design websites for small companies. During this time, she learned to knit and loved it, which is how Laura met Lorna - owner of a local hand-dyed yarn company. She encouraged Laura to follow her true passion (knitting!) and voila! Doug and Laura emptied their savings account and Jimmy Beans Wool was born!
We're going to be talking about the evolution of Jimmy Beans Wools, Sitch Red, her philosophy on business, the fiber arts industry, successes, challenges, and what's in store for the future.
Laura is one of the most savvy business people in the fiber arts world. She's also someone who's courageous and generous of spirit. I’m so happy to be able to have her on the podcast. I hope you’ll tune in for what should be a great show.
In celebration of the launch of My Paris Story - Living, Loving and Leaping without a net in the City of Lights on May 6th, I am re-airing an interview I did with one of the authors a few months ago.
Stay tuned for more on our exciting book launch and in the meantime, enjoy this uplifting interview with expat entrepreneur Karen Reb Rudel!
Born and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Karen grew up with the aspiration to be a comedian, a musician, or both... She groomed these crafts from a young age by making everyone around her laugh and beginning a lifetime romance with the flute at the age of 9. She went on to study drama at Temple University in Philadelphia and played in a series of bands.
From the age of 30 until she got married, Karen was back and forth between Paris and Philadelphia, working on musical projects and touring (including being the flautist and singer in a Reggae band in Paris). One day her parents came to visit her, and Karen, having learned a lot about Paris, was showing them around when her mother exclaimed, "Karen, you would make a great tour guide!"
That was the light bulb moment, and as the French say, voila! Sightseekers Delight was born.
Paris has been Karen's stomping ground for nearly 15 years, And when her company came to life 3 years ago, she was able to use all the knowledge and trivia she had on Paris to incorporate it directly into her tours. Her first hand knowledge and insatiable appetite for learning gives her company the historical background and underground cultural scoops that will make your tour unforgettable.
