    Back in the USSR

    in Politics Conservative

Russia appears to be a stabilizing force on the world stage; while the USA is being plunged into Communism. We are being pummeled by a constellation of scandals, laying the foundations for a fundamental transformation of our Constitutional Republic into a police-state at home and an Imperial force abroad.  Have we become the USSR?
Tyranny is assured UNLESS liberty-loving people of good conscience can set aside their differences and band together against the rising tide of collectivism, statism and oligarchy.  Grassroots conservatives and libertarians, whether Republicans, alternate party or independent (who agree far more than we disagree) MUST work together to ensure the restoration of Constitutionally limited government – it is up to you.  Join Tex and Rex for irreverent, relevant and radioactive conservatism with a bite Sunday night at 10:00 pm EDT
“This is just a shortcut to make it easier for America’s spies to spy on Americans . . .they spied on the West Wing, they spied on the Pentagon, they spied on the Supreme Court, they spied on the CIA! This is spies spying on spies. This is the most extraordinarily broad search warrant ever issued in the history of the federal courts of the United States!” Judge Andrew Napolitano “I’m a Verizon customer, I don’t mind Verizon turning over records to the government if the government’s going to make sure that they try to match up a known terrorist phone with somebody in the United States.” Sen. SERIOUSIDE: Herb Strather, USA vs USSR, US Economy on Steriods

    in Radio

Welcome to the Seriouside of the jril show.  This morning will be the discussing the following topics:

SEGMENT ONE:  Detrioit Real Developer Herb Strather

    SEGMENT TWO:  USA vs. USSR

With the situation in Ukraine getting worse, the Russian/US relationship has become very frosty.  Earlier this week, a civilian airplane was shot down near the Russian border; will this recent incident send the relationship into a free fall? The Cold War returns?

    SEGMENT THREE:  RIDDLE ME THIS…

If someone told you back in 2008 that in 6 years the unemployment rate would be 6.1%, the Dow Jones would be at a record high, and there would be 52 straight months of job growth would you take it? We are going to assume that most smart people would answer the question yes.  That is the current state of the economy, but yet most Americans think that the country is heading in the wrong direction?

Behind the Headlines - WW2 70th anniversary: Nazis' defeat remembered in Russia

    in News

With end-of-WW2 commemorations taking place across the world this week, the surrender of Nazi Germany on May 8th 1945 is remembered very differently in Russia compared with the West, where relatively muted commemorative events were held. This week on Behind the Headlines, we'll be examining the historical and political reasons for this discrepancy.

In addition to being guest of honor at the Moscow Victory Parade on Red Square, China's President Xi Jinping signed a raft of new deals with the Russian government, while Chinese battleships participated in joint war games with the Black Sea Fleet. Somehow, we don't think the promoters of 'isolating Russia' foresaw trans-Eurasian railways resulting from their sanctions...

While president Obama has been rallying Japan and other Pacific Asian countries behind a 'Trans-Pacific Partnership', the only large crowds in the US this week were angry ones, as protests against police brutality continue. We'll be bringing you the latest on that front, and analyzing the surprising results of the UK's general election.

    Behind the Headlines airs live this Sunday, 10 May 2015, from 2-4pm EST / 11am-1pm PST / 7-9pm UTC / 8-10pm CET.

The Week In Reviews - Operation Ivy Bells - Robert G. Williscroft

    in Books

Operation Ivy Bells. Broadly speaking the plot is simple, it is towards the end of the Cold War, might the US be daring enough to send an older nuclear powered sub into the heart of waters controlled by the USSR to plant an NSA inspired listening device on an underwater communications cable? Might the same sub also snoop around a little bit to see if they can find any remnants from recent missile launches? Well I have to say yes. Might a sub lurking inside USSR controlled waters possibly attract the attention of the Russians, certainly!

I will be sitting down with Robert to find out more about Operation Ivy Bells and I think some of the anwers might surprise you.

Lessons from collapse of USSR for USA: Interview with Dmitry Orlov

    in Current Events

This week on SOTT Talk Radio we’re speaking with Dmitry Orlov, a Russian-American engineer and a writer on the subject of societal collapse.

Born in St. Petersburg, Orlov moved to the U.S. at the age of 12. Visiting his homeland between the late 1980s and mid-1990s, he was an eyewitness to the collapse of the U.S.S.R.

Orlov has written extensively on the stages leading up to collapse, and how different groups of people adapt to ‘the new normal’. Orlov argues that the U.S. is heading the same way, and that the U.S.S.R. had it easy compared to what’s in store for the Atlantic Empire.

Orlov is the author of two books Reinventing Collapse: The Soviet Example and American Prospects, and The Five Stages of Collapse: Survivors' Toolkit, and regularly publishes essays at his Club Orlov blog.

Join us from 2-4pm EST (11am-1pm PST, 8-10pm CET) this Sunday 18th May for a discussion on surviving the end of the world (as we know it!)

Behind the Headlines: Hidden History - 70th Anniversary of World War Two

    in History

In a couple of weeks' time, commemorative events will be held in Russia and Europe to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of 'the Second World War'. Barely 20 years following 'the Great War (to end all wars)', World War II, or the 'Great Patriotic War' as it's known in Russia and the former Soviet Republics, left some 80 million people dead (including civilians who died as a result of war-related disease and famine). The largest number of casualties suffered by any one country was Russia, with some 30 million deaths.

Since then, children in Western countries have been taught that a US and UK-led coalition defeated the Nazis (and Imperial Japan) to save the world from fascism and secure a better world for all. But is this the whole story? Was the sudden emergence of a post-war geopolitical balance-of-power that transformed the USSR from ally to enemy - and the US from 'reluctant participant' to global superpower - merely an accident of fate? As we try to understand the current global chaos, we need to ask; what crucial details and context have been excised from the history books?

Today on Behind the Headlines, we look back at this mass outbreak of insanity to explore its causes, historical comparisons, and consequences. We're live this Sunday, April 19th 2015, from 2-4pm EST / 11am-1pm PST / 7-9pm UTC / 8-10pm CET
