Low Truck Driver Pay: Causes and Solutions

    in Current Events

Professional CMV drivers were earning more money in 1980 than they are today and they have seen truck driver wages fall by 40% during the past 33 years.
With no adjustment for inflation or other such economic factors, and by figuring in total number of hours worked per week, the majority of drivers end up earning an hourly wage that is far below the minimum wage.
Jeff Barker is an 18 year OTR veteran with over two million miles. A former heavy truck and transport refrigeration mechanic and truck owner-operator, he began writing for  Land Line Magazine in 2005 and is founder of the Ride and Roll Program, a driver health and wellness plan.
Joining us as our guest, Jeff will discuss the post 1980 deregulation effects, the public image of the American trucker, why truck driver pay has not significantly increased over the past three decades and what he sees as the root causes and solutions to these problems.
Closing song: "Down the Road" by Rob Anthony.

Talking In Circles: All-Star Race Review, Truck Series Race, Kahne's Penalty

    in Sports

Denny Hamlin won the All-Star race beating Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch. It's Hamlin and JGR's first win in the All-Star race as well as Toyota's first win.

Who was impressive? Does this win do anything for you as far as Toyota making gains on the mile and a half? Who were you surprised didn't do well?

Jimmie Johnson potential penalty. Does this matter since it's a non-points event? Should the penalty be stiffer?

Sprint Showdown Friday- Biffle and Boywer transfer- Again does this do anything as far as making gains?

The format. Do you like the format? How was the racing last night?

Also NC Education Lottery 250- Kasey Kahne beats Erik Jones by an inch. Jones ran a great race and dominated most of the event. Kahne's truck fails post race inspection. Thoughts? Will they take the win away?

When will these teams stop cheating? Should drivers start being suspended?

    Points in the truck series.

James Buescher is out of a ride in the Truck Series. http://www.catchfence.com/2015/truckseries/05/14/statement-from-james-buescher/ We'll talk about his comments.

Kyle Busch is officially granted his waiver. Is that right? Our thoughts about that.

Entry list for Coca-Cola 600....48 cars for 43 spots. Nice car count.

Joe Shelton from BeyondTheFlag.com calls to talk about the upcoming Indianapolis 500. Is there a safety concern for these cars going up in the air? Who's a favorite to win? What team is a favorite win?

CM Radio - May 13, 2015 - Best of CMW - Billy Talent, Monster Truck & More

    in Music

This is the first of our Best of CMW episodes, and I suppose this one could unofficially be called the Dine Alone Records round-up.

Dine Alone is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year, and as such, founder Joel Carriere anchored a special panel during the conference to talk about the ups and downs of the last decade in the label game. Mike caught up with him before the round table to talk shop, and it's a great interview.

For musical artists, we've got both Monster Truck and Single Mothers on this weeks show - both blowing up, both Dine Alone bands. The former is working on the follow-up to 2013's hugely successful Furiosity while Single Mothers are still riding the attention surrounding their debut, Negative Qualities.

We've also got the boys in Billy Talent, who may not be a Dine Alone band, but considering their history with the likes of Alexisonfire, Moneen, Cancer Bats, and the gang, could be considered extended family.

Plenty more from CMW coming up. Enjoy!
