September 23 - Jazz Vocalist - Toni Lincoln
When vocalist Toni Lincoln was 5 years old, she liked to dress up in her grandmother’s vintage dresses and sing to her dolls which she neatly arranged on her bed as an audience for her impromptu concerts. Little did she know that it would be more than 5 decades later that she would do her first real live singing appearance at a little subterranean Portland jazz club.
Toni Lincoln’s new self-titled CD is testament to her love of the Great American Songbook and her exceptional skill in bringing emotional honesty and her own special sweetness to the genre.
With the haunting sounds of days gone by, Toni is the essence of the crisp, pure, smooth tones that are so reminiscent of standard chirpings made legendary by greats like Ella and Sarah,

About Shannon Marie
For a flower to grow and blossom, it has to go thru a lot of dirt. It also need a lot of care and nurturing. This analogy reminds me of all the tough as well as rewarding experiences I have had in life. Your life can change in a split second. I suffered a severe traumatic brain injury on November 17, 1984 at the age of fifteen. The accident left me in a deep coma for two months. My rehabilitation was learning to walk, talk, chew, swallow, and most importantly, to SMILE! The doctor's prognosis was not good, but my true grit determination proved them all wrong. With my Mother's "Never Give Up" attitude, she instilled in me that anything is possible! Abraham Lincoln once said, "Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." That has become my philosophy on life.

Tonight at 8pm ET on Ernest Radio Network, it's The Ernest Experience Radio Show - REWIND.
Ernest is joined by his bevy of beauties, including Ms. Teri, and Momo B., to talk about a few things. First up, Toni Braxton recently said her son as autism because God punished her for having an abortion in the past. We think that's bull, but what do you think?
Also, workers at a cotton gin in Tennessee are complaining about the owners being racist (it's pretty bad). Ms. Teri leads the conversation on this one.
Also, no listening lounge tonight, but we do have NPR news at the top of both hours, weather.com 3-day forecast at the top of the 2nd hour, and great music from Toni Braxton throughout the show.
Shannon's guest this week, Julia Torres Barden, an award-winning journalist, gubernatorial appointee, and PTSD survivor. She endured a violent New York City childhood as a Puerto Rican girl from the South Bronx, which she chronicles in her book, “NEWYORICANGIRL…Surviving my Spanglish Life.” This novel/memoir is a gritty tale of trauma and painful cultural assimilation while pursuing the American dream. After navigating a traumatic childhood that included rape, her mother's conflicted life as the mistress of a powerful CEO, alcoholic parents, and forced adoption, Julia found herself trapped in New York City on 9/11.
"In 2013, I pushed my luck and I lived. I stared down my deepest fears and didn’t back down. I shared my vulnerability with strangers and they embraced me. I took so many risks that I exhausted myself to the brink of disaster. I looked the boogeyman straight in the eye and he blinked first; leaving me victorious and free," said Julia about her memoir.
