A New Economic Solution to Drive Cures to Patients

    in Medicine

Generic drugs can be repurposed to create effective treatments in unsolved diseases. However, there is no economic incentive for industry to pay for a clinical validation and regulatory approval process for most generic drug repurposing because it will not achieve the necessary ROI. Cures Within Reach, FindaCure, Numbers For Good and the National Health Service in England are working together to the create a new economic solution to this problem by piloting the first ever Rare Disease Generic Drug Repurposing Social Impact Bond (SIB). This SIB would be a “pay for success” initiative, in which investors fund the proof of concept repurposing clinical trials and the government provides a payment to the SIB for any repurposed therapies that both improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. The government success payment would allow the SIB to repay the investors, and have additional funds for the next group of repurposing clinical trials, creating a sustainable funding source for generic drug repurposing.

Let's talk DIY repurposing ideas with Anitra Mecadon & Tara Dara

    in Design

Repurposing ideas are like little gems falling from the sky, and we're talking with two creative experts on this episode.

We are sharing repurposing ideas for both the newbie repurposer and the experienced. And on this episode, we put two repurposing experts -- Anitra Mecadon and Tara Dara -- to our unconventional repurposing ideas test.

Pop quiz: What could you make out of these?

    Fishing rod
    Pool cue and billiard balls
    Swim floaties
    Charcoal barbeque lid

(Tweet us your answer for a chance to win $25 gift card)

Anitra Mecadon, the bubbly and fiercely fun host and designer from DIY Network's 'Mega Dens' is sharing repurposing ideas for everything from old doors to fishing rods. She's contributed to HGTV’s All American Handyman, HGTV’s Behind the Build Dream House, HGTV’s Behind the Build Smart Home, HGTV’s Raise the Roof College Challenge and more. Whether she’s dangling from a scaffold or breaking down a concrete wall, Anitra’s rock ‘n’ roll approach gives her an edge not usually found in most designers.

Tara Dara makes magic out of discarded objects she finds on walks through her neighborhood, and is crazy-good at sewing. She also studied faux finishing and mural painting, raku pottery, photography, and even Play Doh. Tara shaved her head for St Baldricks Day 2014 to raise money for Childhood Cancer Research. She's shared her expertise with The Rachael Ray show, sewing ideos for PBS, various DVDs, online sewing videos, and as one of Bob Vila’s Bloggers.

SOCIAL MEDIA PARTY OVER HERE! Numbers Matter. Reciprocation & Expansion.

    in Christianity

"If you have a favorite social media, you don't get social media."  Grant Cardone.

We all know the value of being on Social Media when you are marketing online.  However, some of us hang out exclusively on one or two sites.

I get it - managing your presence on multiple sites can get time consuming, but there is a way to leverage your content for maximum exposure.

There are social media lessons we can learn from the Bible.

    Let's talk:

    Content distribution
    Repurposing
    Massive Exposure
    Spam Danger

My social sites that I would love some love on (HINT: if you are not on these sites, you should consider jumping on board)

    Waste Management Programs

    in Current Events

We have to returning guests this morning, that we had a great conversation with back in February, Janine Hammer and Angelica Dulce of Waste Management.

Janine brings over 20 years of experience in government affairs, community relations, environmental sustainability, and customer focused service to Waste Management.  After attending NYU, Janine got her start working for non-profit organizations including Neighbor to Neighbor and Global Green where she served as the Development Director and the Coalition for Clean Air where she served as Chief Operating Officer.

Angelica Dulce graduated from California State University Long Beach in 2012 with a Major in Environmental Science & Policy. She interned with the City of Long Beach Office of Sustainability and was in charge of the Green Business Recognition Program that awards businesses for their green efforts. In 2013, Angelica worked for the nonprofit group Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy, where her focus was the Clean Air Clean Trucks campaign at the Port of Long Beach. She was the liaison between the community, city officials and over 10 other non-profits to promote and publicize the environmental impacts of pollution in the harbor community.

Today it’s all about reusing, recycling, reclaiming, repurposing and environmental responsibility and this morning we’re going to hear about Waste Management’s latest programs that are about to go into effect in Manhattan Beach.
