PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT VIA THE MATHEMATICS STUDIO CLASSROOM
Former president of NCTM and Portland (OR) professor Dr Mike Shaughnessy with his guest, Linda Forema
Ignore the propaganda about today's children in America's urban communities being lazy dropouts that only want tofight and sell drugs. It's not a bit true, and for those who worked with young people this summer, they discovered an enthusiastic group of youth who are excited about science, technology, engineering and math! Lauren Ward, author of The 6 Step Plan: Rising To Greatness To Fulfill Your Destiny, worked with students in the PUSH Excel STEM Program thjis summer, teaching them how to master the new media technology. A recent graduate of Howard University, she recognized that many youth have a burning desire to excel, and merely needed the opportunity to learn. It is our responsibility as parents to cultivate the natural genius in our children, and to ignore the propaganda that others continue to spread, making excuses as to why urban schools are underfunded and undersupported. We can turn our homes into institutions of higher learning. We can give our children a different vision of their future; we can teach them that they are here to take over and change the world that others have destroyed, by discovering new ways to produce fuel, travel, grow food, and communicate. We can instill in our children the reality that the word is falling apart so that they can rebuild it the way it should be - with fairness, justice, and respect for all. Lauren Ward give tips on how to motivate youth to strive for their highest potential.
If doesn't make sense, then it doesn't make sense! Open borders with no restrictions on travel concerning Ebola. Cases of this deadly virus are already appearing in the US and the CDC says we do not need to worry. ISIS is ready to start their attacks on the US with Obama not even lifting a finger to defend this country. What does it all really mean when reality and the obvious are not even part of the conversation concerning our safety! The fact is the spirit of deception; murder and destruction are deeply imbedded in our government representatives who are themselves going to be the victims when it all comes to a head. How did this happen?

The Honorable Marcus Garvey Marched. He had 2,000,000 followers. Martin Luther King had a "March On Washington". He had 250,000 that marched with him There were 1,000,000 men at the Million Man March.
Today on "It's My House" we shall take a look at the "carbon footprint" of these events and see what we can do to tweak them for future events as we strive for social change in government and in daily living. All of these events provide us with the data that we need to create the realities that we want.

Hear perspective on Common Core Math with Professor Jim Milgram. He along with Professor Sandra Stotsky were invited to be on the National Validation Committee for Common Core but would not approve it. Hear about the gains he was seeing with minority students before the Common Core and the dangers to American businesses. He has blunt in past interviews and had even recommended that parents if they can--homeschool their children. Why? Listen and learn about the new education system that unfortunately is leading to a the dumbing down. It is so bad that after three years of the Common Core Math--the damage may not be undone...

Who’s responsible for a child to learn math, reading, comprehension, writing and other fundamental skills? Is it the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian or the teacher? Do you think that they should share the responsibility? Yes, is the obvious answer, but is it really that simple? “It takes a village to raise a child.” In other words, it takes the encouragement from many individuals in a child’s life to assist them as they learn valuable social skills and strive to achieve academic success. After all, these children are our future, the future leaders of our world. Are we working together? Are we, teachers and parents, doing our part to help them become productive members of society?
