U.S. revamps failed plan to take on ISIS in Syria

    in Current Events

    1. In an acknowledgment of severe shortcomings in its effort to create a force of moderate rebels to battle the Islamic State in Syria, the Pentagon is drawing up plans to significantly revamp the program by dropping larger numbers of fighters into safer zones as well as providing better intelligence and improving their combat skills.

    2. The UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage has warned that thousands of ISIS jihadists could use the migrant crisis to “flood” into Europe, as he urged Britons not to “allow their compassion to imperil their safety”.

    3. Work on a 30-kilometer fence along a southern stretch of Israel’s border with Jordan has begun amid efforts to protect Israel against security threats and to keep migrants and asylum seekers from entering the country.

    4. Iran’s defense minister hailed the nuclear accord struck with world powers as a “surrender” by “the superpowers” to “the majesty” of Iran.

    5. Iraq has put F-16 warplanes acquired from the United States into action against the Islamic State group for the first time.

You can read these stories in more detail and get more prophecy-related news at SecondComingHerald.com.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Job 19:25 which reads: "For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth."

Our second coming quote for today is from Charles Spurgeon: He said, "Some think that this descent of the Lord will be postmillennial — that is, after the thousand years of his reign. I cannot think so. I conceive that the advent will be premillennial that he will come first, and then will come the millennium as the result of his personal reign upon earth."

Green Bay Packers report card 2015 - Quarterbacks and Running Backs

    in Sports

The Green Bay Packers were one of the pre-season favorites to be playing in Super Bowl 50. Jordy Nelson was injured during a pre-season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, that did not stop the Packers from jumping out ot 6-0 start going into their bye week. Even though they were not playing their best football, the optimism was high that the offense would start clicking. The next two weeks would be against the eventual Super Bowl participants. The Denver Broncos exposed a way to rattle the Packers and their defense dominated the Packers enroute to a 29-10 victory. The following week, in Carolina, the Packers dug a hole and a comeback feel short as they lost 37-29. The rest of the season was a bumpy up and down road. A hail mary in Detroit may have saved a playoff berth. The Packers lost to the Minnesota Vikings, in week 17, ending their string of four consecutive division titles.

Aaron Rodgers is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL and had to get used to Tom Clements calling the plays early in the season. With Jordy Nelson done for the year, Rodgers had to find another go to guy. Early in the season James Jones was the target. As the season rolled on, no receiver stepped up and it looked like Rodgers lost confidence in his receivers. Rodgers finished below a 100 quarterback rating for the first time since time since 2008. That was his first year as a starter.

A good running game can help a passing game. The Packers had a hard time finding a consistent running game. Eddie Lacy surpassed 1,000 yards in his first two seasons. In 2015, Lacy carried the ball 59 times less than 2014 and finished with 758 yards and only three touchdowns. As Lacy struggled, James Starks had career highs in carries and yards. Starks fumbled four times which was one less than he had in his five previous seasons with the Packers.

Tonight we grade the Packers quarterbacks and running backs. Listen in and call the show.

Behind the Headlines: Christmas in Syria – Interview with Eva Bartlett

    in News

This week on Behind the Headlines, we’re interviewing – for the second time – freelance journalist and human rights activist Eva Bartlett, who was on this show two months ago. Bartlett was aboard the Dignity, one of five Free Gaza relief operations to successfully sail to the Gaza Strip in 2008. She ended up staying in Gaza for some time, reporting from there during Israeli Operations ‘Cast Lead’ in 08/09, and ‘Pillar of Defense’ in 2012.

In the last couple of years, Bartlett has been one of the few Western journalists to report truthfully on the situation in Syria, a country she has visited several times, including independently on a journalist visa. Bartlett recently returned from spending 8 days over Christmas in the war-torn country, where she attended conferences, visited recently liberated districts, and met Syrian officials, religious and community leaders.

Listeners can find Eva’s writings on Syria and Palestine at her blog, InGaza.wordpress.com, and support her continuing work as a voice for the voiceless through SyriaSolidarityMovement.org.

We hope you'll join us from 2-4pm EST / 8-10pm CET, this Sunday 10th January 2016, for an account of life in Syria you won't hear anywhere else.
