    Filmmaker and Slam Poet JD Glasscock

    A part of the 90's movement to Slam Poetry, JD Glasscock has help write songs and book throughout his career. He had his own blues rock band "Sofa King".


    His creative edge has been translated to short movies, which several have been featured in festivals across the the U.S. His use of light has made his movies "shine".


    We will talk to JD about the transition to film, his career as a poet, and making his directorial debut.

    John Crow was born in Detroit Mi. he is a blend of Native American and Kentucky Hillbilly. He has been involved with performance poetry for the past 15 years. As the founding Slam-master of Killeen Poetry Slam, he has also coached, performed and organized teams that have been in the top two rankings at The National Poetry Slam. “ Just because I’m the slam master of Killeen TX doesn’t mean I’m the best poet, it just means I’m the best poet with a plan.” Killeen as a unique one liner style of poetry that they do for fun. Crow is the Arch Bishop of One line poetry. It's kinda like Haiku but there just isn't the 17 syllable restriction. " I have been writing Haiku for awhile, I am always in awe of the poets who can inspire feeling in as few words as possible" Crow is a sound engineer and recognized as one of the top media relations professionals in the Army. "I have used my talents to help as many people as I can, I still enjoy mastering projects but I rarely have time for it." At 48 John Crow retired from being Slam-master of Killeen. " It's about time, poetry is changing plus I want to start touring."

    Starting off the month of April tomorrow, April 1st joining, CWT4R co-host, Terry, Ina and Michelle, will be the hot, sexy, and out spoken NIKKI PATIN. Nikki has been writing for over two decades and her writings extend from love, revolutionary, to violence to empowerment to loving one’s self to love of a child. She can be steamy, well reserved, in your face, behind closed door, telling you about yourself before you know it is about you. Nikki Patin has appeared on HBO's Def Poetry Jam, WGN, WCIU, WBEZ and New Zealand's TV3 and Radio New Zealand. She was voted one of 30 under 30 most influential LGBTQ people in Chicago by Windy City Times and took the gold medal in the 2006 Gay Games International LGBT poetry slam.  She is the creator of Surviving the Mic(www.survivingthemic.org), an organization dedicated to creating safe and affirming artistic spaces for survivors of trauma. Nikki Patin is an MFA candidate in Creative Non-Fiction at Stonecoast MFA Program at the University of Southern Maine and a weekly cultural commentator on “Music Vox” on www.vocalo.org.     JD Glasscock started as a slam poet on national teams in 1990. 6 years later he moved onto being the singer/songwriter/front man of a blues rock band called Sofa King which lasted ten years. Though he still writes both lyrics and poetry in 2005 he moved onto studying film writing and directing with a special emphasis on lighting, specifically, Noir Lighting. He moved to Los Angeles in 2010 to finally pursue those aspirations. He currently has 5 short films to his name and has won awards as a filmmaker at large festivals. He has a 6th in preproduction. He also in addition to his filmmaking has 13 self published books which can be found here http://www.lulu.com/shop/search.ep?keyWords=JD+Glasscock&type Those books include poetics, lyrics, video game designs, excerpts from his film scripts, graphic novels, kid's books etc...His current goal is to solicit backing for his first feature film, a western entitled Lonesome Hill.
