Have We Lost George Washington's Vision? Author, Daniel Lycan

    in Politics Conservative

Southern Sense is a show of conservative talk on news and events, with Annie "The Radio Chick" Ubelis as host and CS Bennett as co-host.
Informative, fun, irreverent and politically incorrect, you never know where we'll go, but you'll love the journey!

Visit our website at http://www.Southern-Sense.com, become a member and follow us here and on Facebook.

Guest: Daniel Lycan, author.  This show is dedicated to the father of Daniel Lycan:

Col Daniel Lycan's service to our country was a long and historic one that was never quite widely appreciated by his countrymen but is well known by his family and fellow soldiers. He now is engaged in a battle with late stage esophageal cancer and it would be a fitting tribute to offer a show to recognize such a humble man that influenced our continued greatness as a nation in many ways. I am flying down to Virginia to see him and will try to get him to be with me if he is strong enough when I call you. His inspiring career is the basis for the fictional character Gen David Lion in my book, The George Washington Vision. He taught us to pray on the same grounds inhabited by George Washington under the stained glass picture that is on the cover of my book:

Politics Done Right - Interview with Jack Hunter, the changed Southern Avenger

    in Politics

Jack Hunter was an aide to Republican Presidential candidate Rand Paul. He helped Rand Paul write his book “The Tea Party Goes to Washington“. He resigned from Rand Paul’s staff when it was revealed that he was the Confederate Flag mask wearing Southern Avenger, the radio personality that espoused racist views on a local South Carolina station.

This week Jack Hunter penned a mea culpa in The Daily Beast titled “The ‘Southern Avenger’ Repents: I Was Wrong About the Confederate Flag”. His piece was the talk on just about every cable and broadcast news network. I read it and simply said I hope he really gets it and that was that.

I then watched Jack Hunter’s interview on All In with Chris Hayes. The bell went off in my head. I do not know Jack Hunter’s heart. All anyone can know going forward are his deeds. And if the reformed Southern Avenger who had a mindset that is still prevalent in this country can be a conduit for positive change, then I am willing to try.

The Racial Divide: With “Southern Rites” Filmmaker, Gillian Laub

    in Culture

Gillian Laub is a photographer/artist/filmmaker of the critically acclaimed HBO documentary, “Southern Rites”.  Gillian Laub first visited Mt. Vernon, Georgia, in 2002 to photograph the community’s segregated homecoming celebrations. Seven years later, after multiple visits to the area, the New York Times Magazine ran a photo essay, “A Prom Divided,” that documented Georgia’s Montgomery County High School’s racially segregated prom. Not surprisingly, the series generated national outrage that lead to the integration of the proms.

As the film unraveled, there became more to the intended story of this small town in Georgia…

A 22 year old black man, Justin Patterson, was shot and killed by Norman Neesmith, a white man who was living nearby in Toombs County.

With continued tensions of racial divide, this tragedy changed the course of Gillian’s documentary.

On this episode, we’re going to sit down with Gillian Laub to discuss her amazing film, “Southern Rites” and what she sees as a future for this country when it comes to the Racial Divides that affect us nationwide, and not just in the south.

Inside the Southern Roots Kitchen with Kimberlee Stevenson

    in Food

Join us in the Southern Roots Kitchen today with food blogger Kimberlee Stevenson.
Kimberlee S Stevenson is the owner of Southern Roots Kitchen; born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts where her love for being in the kitchen began at an early age. While watching her mother, aunts, uncles, grandparents and great-grandmother cook in the kitchen Kimberlee began to learn her way around the kitchen.
Attending the Springfield Girls Club Family Center for their after school program gave her the chance to learn even more about cooking and baking. As a member of the Busy Bees Cooking Club under the direction of the head cook Mary ‘Mama Morgan’ Kimberlee learned different kitchen essentials and baked her first batch of Peanut Butter cookies. Every chance she got Kimberlee spent time in the kitchen anxious to learn all that she could.
As years passed by Kimberlee continued to keep cooking close to her heart, baking cakes, pies and cookies for close family and friends. Stepping out on faith and with the support from family and friends, Kimberlee decided to turn her passion and love for cooking into her business, Southern Roots Kitchen.
