Malarek’s most recent book: The Johns – Sex for Sale and the Men Who Buy It gives a frank look at the other side of the worldwide flesh trade: the men who fuel the demand for purchased sex. Lori Blair, Soroptimist’s Senior Director of Program Services will also speak with us on what is called today’s slave trade. Blair has given numerous workshops and presentations on sex trafficking and administers the Soroptimist STOP Trafficking project.

    She oversees strategic planning and program development for the Soroptimist organization and has held a number of leadership positions in her nearly 30 years of volunteer service. Alice is also a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the International Reading Association.

    Then, we'll be joined by our special guest Linda Joy Goldner. After 27 years of managing her own graphic design office, she is returning to school and transitioning into a new realm and passion of healthcare chaplaincy. Linda is also the designer behind our wonderful Live Your Dream logo.

    We'll wrap up with Renee Gordon, Vice President Client Relations at CEO Chef in California. She's a high performing real estate broker, past consultation for Donald Trump International in Australia, and a successful entrepreneur.     Helen Block, Karen Block, Monica Frey, Lunafest

    Our guests this morning are Monica Frey, Karen Block and Helen Block of Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach.

    Monica Frey has been a member of Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach since 2008 and Chairperson of Lunafest for the 5th year in a row.  

    In addition to chairing the event and serving on several other committees, she has served on the SIMB Board of Directors as VP of Programs, and 1st and 2nd Year Director.

    Monica is currently the Assistant General Manager for the Manhattan Village Shopping Center and has been associated with the mall since 1986.  She currently oversees all of the Operations of the shopping center and is an active team member working on the proposed redevelopment.

    Karen Block has been a member of Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach for 6 years.  In that time she has served in numerous positions including President from 2010 to 2012.  

    Helen Block has been a Soroptimist for over 25 years and is currently serving as President.  

    She has chaired many of the various projects, including the public service project, the screening of the documentary film “Miss Representation.”  

    She also chaired the recent art exhibit “The World Through the Eyes of Women” which featured 27 women artist from Turkey.  

    This morning, the ladies are going to tell us all about LunaFest which takes place this Sunday, March 30 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center and is sponsored by Soroptimist International.

A professional speaker and woman of resilience, Phyllis triumphed over domestic violence as a young married college student. She underwent eye surgery to correct rapid blindness, and turned her passion for photography into Hummingbird Studios.
