The Highs and Lows of Single Fathers Raising Daughters

    in Entertainment

This week on WTTA, our topic of discussion will be quite interesting.  After airing, “The Delicate Dynamics of Mothers and Daughters”, I received a message from a male listener who shared some of his experiences as a single father and his relationship with his daughter.  He suggested I do a show about the topic and volunteered to share his experiences.  Within the last two weeks, I had a chance to connect with another single father of a daughter who was also willing to share his experiences.

Tim and Vince will give their unique perspective on being a single parent and what that entails. When we hear the title 'single parent', most of us naturally assume a female is the head of household.  In reality, there are quite a few single dads out there playing the role of dad AND mom.  I can testify that raising a male child as a single mom definitely has its challenges.  I’m curious to learn if we share similar experience and how they handle all of the little nuances that come with trying to raise a secure, intelligent woman.

I’d like to know: How do you handle the hair issues?  Dating? Her period? Do you date a lot?  How soon is too soon to introduce women to daughters? How do you deal with the attitudes?  I definitely have questions lol.

The show will air Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 5:00 EST.  The Guest Call-In number is (713) 955-0703.

Hope you can join the conversation.

    Peace & Kind Regards,

    Tonja

PNHP Panel - Single Payer Health Insurance - NPTR-53

    in Politics Progressive

PNHP California (PNHP CA) is the largest state chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP). We are physicians, medical students, health professionals and advocates who believe that access to high-quality health care is a right and should be provided equitably as a public service rather than bought and sold as a commodity.

We educate and advocate for a single-payer health insurance system in California and the nation. We believe that our current Medicare program should be improved and expanded to include all persons living in the United States. We acknowledge that a national health insurance system will most likely result from individual states creating their own single-payer models. California is poised to become one of the first to create such a model.

PNHP-CA originated in 1987 under the name California Physicians Alliance (CaPA). CaPA was founded to promote progressive change in health care at the state and local levels. In 1993 CaPA officially became the California chapter of PNHP. In 2010 CaPA changed its name to PNHP California to more clearly reflect our ties to our national organization and its mission.

    Tez Brooks,The Single Dad Detour

    in Books

Practical steps to embrace God's mission for single Dads

Conventional wisdom holds that fathers have few parenting skills and that mothers always know best. The single father is often considered a mythical creature, found only in sitcoms as an object of humor or pity. Where does that leave real single dads? Too often, it makes them susceptible to overcompensation or apathy.

Tez Brooks knows those feelings all too well. He’s traveled that road with his own children after an unexpected divorce. The Single Dad Detour is the result of his journey and the lessons he’s learned along the way. It’s a guidebook for the rocky road of single fatherhood, extending encouragement, confidence, and challenges, using specific examples from dads who’ve survived parenting and have hope to offer.

There are no unreachable requirements for perfect fatherhood here and no twisty theological mysteries—just authentic, down-to-earth wisdom from one dad to another.

Tez Brooks is the father of four children and a missionary filmmaker for The Jesus Film Project. He has also been a journalist for Cru and a Florida law enforcement officer. Tez has been speaking and writing books and articles for over thirty years.

Practical steps to embrace God's mission for single-again dads. --Bill Hodgson, national director Campus Crusade for Christ Australia

If I were a single parent on this journey, I'd want Tez's comforting voice on my GPS. It's a warm and understanding voice that's traveled the back roads and knows where it's going. --Rick James author of Jesus Without Religion and A Million Ways to Die

For an easily overlooked demographic, Tez Brooks wisely, honestly, and courageously deep-dives into how divorced fathers can survive being single and still be really good dads. --Rohan Dredge, founder and CEO New Level Leadership
