Seattle Times sports business columnist Geoff Baker joins us to discuss his latest article on Seattle as an NHL market, as well as the arena situation as a whole.
Hosts Todd Stauber and Aaron Heinzen take you through the week of soccer from the great city of Seattle, where soccer is as important as Starbucks. This week the boys break down USA's 1-1 draw with Switzerland, an improved performance that saw Jozy Altidore sent off in the second half. They'll talk European Championship qualifiers, including Gareth Bale's outstanding performance for Wales, and Harry Kane's 78 second wonder goal for England. Staubs and Heinzo also look at the weekend ahead in the Premier League, including Liverpool v Arsenal, United v Villa, and a host of other games affecting the top 4 and the relegation battle. Finally the boys look at the MLS, a week that saw Kaka break out once again, David Villa sit with a hamstring, and Seattle and Dallas play the first game in MLS history without recording a shot on goal.
Daniel Hoyos is an indie film producer and new director of the popular Seattle Shorts Film Festival now in it’s 4th year. After graduating with a degree in film and communications in 2009, Daniel got his first job working for the nationally syndicated TV Show “Biz Kids” on PBS, as a production assistant. The following year, he got hired at the international film festival “National Film Festival for Talented Youth” as the submissions and programming intern. Since then, he worked at the “Children’s Film Festival of Seattle” where he helped program the week long 2011 festival, at the Northwest Film Forum.
In 2012, his short film “Play for Me” won best cinematography at the 2012 Sierra Canyon Film Festival in Hollywood. That same year, Daniel produced “No One Knows." The two lead child actors -- Sami Isler and Caleb Barwick -- went on to star in NBC's "Sean Saves the World," and Lifetime's "Army Wives." The film was accepted into 18 film festivals and will premiere on the Shorts HD Network, part of Direct TV, later this year. Daniel is also the film editor at the national magazine "I Am Entertainment."
In December 2013, Daniel became the festival director of the Seattle Shorts Film Festival after taking over from the founder of who retired in 2012.
The Seattle Shorts Film Festival begins November 15th at SIFF Film Center. This year, 28 filmmakers are expected to attend from across the country, along with special guest speaker sag-actress Venus Demilo Thomas from Nickelodeon's "Salute Your Shorts."
Some of the films Daniel will be discussing are "A Fish Tale," "Lunch," "The First Hope," "Water, Ice, Snow" and "The Father."

What a week in soccer it has been. You want some? We've got it. Todd Stauber and Aaron Heinzen break it all down this week starting with a look at all four Champions League first leg matches, including Porto's unlikely 3-1 victory, the blood bath that was Real v Atletico, Barca's 3-1 magical display in Paris, and Juventus' 1-0 win over Monaco. We'll break down a Manchester derby that saw City jump out early, only to be subdued by a driving rain and a surging United squad 4-2 at Old Trafford. While we'll break United's derby win down, we'll also look at their next test, a visit to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea on Saturday. We'll also look at the FA Cup Semifinal games this coming weekend. We'll talk USA v Mexico and of course Jordan Morris, Seattle boy turned USA scorer, as he netted his first international goal in his first start against Mexico leading the US to a 2-0 win over their bitter rival. Last but not least, we welcome former MLS veteran and Seattle Sounder FC legend Roger Levesque to the show to talk all things life, Seattle, and MLS. It was a big week in soccer, therefore, we're going to have a big show. Join us Friday at 9am PST.
Sports betting expert Dana Lane comes on to talk about the effort to bring an NHL expansion franchise to Las Vegas. We are also joined by Seattle hockey historian Jeff Obermeyer to talk about Seattle's legacy in the game.
Michael Cohen previews the Seattle Mariners 2015 campaign. The M's enter 2015 with a very interesting roster with the addition of Nelson Cruz to the lineup, and a starting rotation that is now healthy with Felix Hernandez, Hisashi Iwakuma and James Paxton leading the way. Is Seattle ready to compete for a division title?
Join Todd Stauber and Aaron Heinzen from Seattle where they break down the week of world soccer. This week the boys cover the unlikely Paris St. Germain Champions League victory over Chelsea, along with Bayern Munich's advancement in the tournament. With 2 replays on the horizon, and Arsenal advancing 2-1 over Manchester United, they'll give a heavy dose of FA Cup and Premier League action. Last but not least, they'll talk about the first week that was MLS Season 20, including Altidore's brace, Kaka's deflection, and the Seattle Sounders dominating 3-0 win over MLS Cup Finalist New England Revolution.
