Recent evnets in the NFL has demonstrated how public opinion can cause a major sports league to do about faces and go against their own rulings and beliefs. Adrian Peterson, Greg Hardy,Ray Rice and Ray McDonald all have learned just how important public opinion can truly be.
Politicians often follow surveys and polls, which take into account public opinion of constituency. How many politicians actually pay attention to these polls other than around election time.
Then there is the type of opinion that many of us are a casualty of everyday and that is what someone else thinks about us as people.
DOES YOUR OPINION COUNT?
Catch the last days of winter at Fireside Sleigh Rides in North Conway, New Hampshire. Joining host Robin Milling are owners Jason and Heather Blakeney; brother and sister equestrian experts who took their love and expertise with horses hitching them to a romantic sleigh ride through snowy trails along the Saco River. Homeschooled, Jason tells Robin they would do their homework on horseback and both have degrees in equestrian studies so starting a business together where horses were involved was a natural progression.
Arrive at a quaint log cabin office where hot apple Cider and hot chocolate awaits to take along on the ride. Jason takes out the sleigh led by Percherons named Freckles and Pretty Face with Freckles' foal in training leading the way or taking a break to nurse! Unnamed at the time, Jason jokes that patrons were all giving their ideas based on his shiny black coat such as Darth Vader for starters. They went with Pecos (like the river that flows through New Mexico and Texas).
There is the private sleigh ride with room for four but two is always better for the full coziness of snuggling under warm wool blankets. Or if you want a party 'Big Red,' the Bob Sled can accommodate 10 adults and eight children. Both rides end up at a fire pit complete with sticks and marshmallows ready for toasting. Or bring your own chocolate and graham crackers and you can make S'mores.
If you miss the snow, trail and wagon rides are available during the summer at their farm in Brownfield, Maine.

"Political science tells us that campaigns are about driving elections towards or away from a natural outcome. When modelers make models, they are trying to predict a ‘natural’ endpoint. There is always the possibility of biasing your actual calculation. Adding in assumptions like fundamentals could be right and could be wrong, but what they represent is basically a hypothesis about where the race ought to be. Making a model like that is a good political science experiment, but we should be clear that we are adding assumptions on top of the polls."Dr Sam Wang
"That model is wrong(Dr Wang's) — not necessarily because it shows Democrats ahead (ours barely shows any Republican advantage), but because it substantially underestimates the uncertainty associated with polling averages and thereby overestimates the win probabilities for candidates with small leads in the polls. This is because instead of estimating the uncertainty empirically — that is, by looking at how accurate polls or polling averages have been in the past — Wang makes several assumptions about how polls behave that don’t check out against the data." Nate Silver

The New York Times and CBS News published Battleground Tracker using, in part, information from a non probability, opt in survey sparking concern among many in the polling community. In general, these methods have little grounding in theory and the results can vary widely based on the particular method used. While little information about the methodology accompanied the story, a high level overview of the methodology was posted subsequently on the polling vendor’s website.
