Whew! We've dodged a bullet! Congress got off it's collective rump and agreed on a resolution to reopen the government and forestall defaulting on the national debt until after the first of the year, but has the damage already been done? At the least we've damaged our reputation among the countries of the world and have given our rivals, such as China, an advantage. The government shutdown hurt federal employees and contractors who have been essentially laid off the past three weeks without pay. It inconvenienced travellers who had to change their plans to visit our national parks and monuments. Join Ken and Beth as they discuss the reopening of the government and the events leading up to the shutdown and impass in Congress. Call in and speak with the hosts 347-215-9971 or join us in our online chatroom. We would like to hear what you have to say, Thursday Oct. 17th, 9:30PM PDT
Republican Worries 'What We're Getting Out Of It' Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) told radio host Mike Huckabee on Monday that he and other congressional Republicans are concerned about getting too little in exchange for passing a continuing resolution reopening the government.
"It's pretty hard to go home and say I shut the government down for two weeks to get a two-year delay on the medical devices tax," Burgess said.
Burgess was referring to a budget and debt ceiling plan floated by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) that would delay the Affordable Care Act's tax on medical devices, including artificial joints and heart stents.
"I would just tell you, in any case, this doesn't seem like what we went into this fight trying to get," Burgess said. "I just seriously question what we're getting out of it."
Burgess added that he thought the Republican effort to tie its demand to defund Obamacare to budget talks was hampered because the strategy didn't take shape until mid-September.

What is the importance of learning the pro-life ethic in the Christian faith? Can you be a Christian and think that abortion can or should be legal? We will be discussing these questions in today's PLFR and bringing Christian apologist Anthony Horvath on to give us his views about where the Body of Christ and individuals should stand on the issue.
Anthony Horvath is the organizer of the Online Apologetics Conference: Abortion & Apologetics, which is happening at a computer terminal near you April 21-23, 2013. Our own PLFR host Letitia will be one of the presenters (!) among many distinguished Christians apologists who will all be presenting different aspects of the pro-life ethic online.
We also have Troy Newman from Operation Rescue to talk about the potential reopening of the abortion mill, formerly operated by the late George Tiller. Cheryl Chastine, a doctor in Chicago, has apparently filed ownership of a new clinic in Witchita, KS in cooperation with Tiller's associate. Join us for discussion on what this means for America's 1st infamous abortion mill in history.
