Feeling down or depressed from time to time happens to most people. Usually such feelings pass, and a person can improve his or her mood naturally. However, some people cannot break out of a depressed state over an extended period of time. In those cases, a person is considered to have clinical depression. However, there is much research that shows that depression is neurological, not psychological. Certain brain patterns are frequently linked to depression.
This segment will be the first Bilingual segment on BTR. Why because people really need to understand fully that chemical-foods like coke, chips, Wonder Bread, donuts, chicken nuggets and Captain Crunch are bad for you and that broccoli, spinach, chicken (with the skin on), steak, pork, olives and cucumbers are healthy foods? Sadly, at this point in America, the answer is yes. That’s how successful the brainwashing of incessant marketing has been to convince us to eat unhealthy foods. And, that doesn’t bode well for the health of our children and future generations.
The vast majority of Americans have no idea what real food is, have no taste for it, won’t spend the money on it and, won’t feed it to their kids. It is no coincidence that the vast majority of Americans, and their kids, are so sick.
The disconnect between our toxic diets and the resulting sickness is stunning with Neurofeedback we see miracles. Sadness, loneliness, anger, worry, and fear are some of the negative emotions that can prompt a person to turn to alcohol or drugs for a temporary escape, the rush of endorphins into the blood stream and the sense of comfort they bring, even if for only a short time. When these methods of self comfort become habitual, a person loses the ability to handle unpleasant emotions without them. But while alcohol and drug addictions are easy to recognize, food addictions are often misunderstood. Obesity is the result of eating habits out of control, but often the reason behind overeating is emotional distress. Food can be a source of comfort just as can alcohol or drugs. Are you a number of pounds heavier than you would like but haven't been able to shed those extra pounds? Have you noticed not just what you eat but WHEN and WHY you eat? Did you gain wait after a relationship breakup? After a job loss? After a loved ones death? Certain life experiences are distressing, and when food becomes our source of comfort, we eat those things that flood our bodies with comforting endorphins - which are often sugary foods with less nutritional value. Are you overeating to mask a state of depression? How do you know when food has become your drug?

This episode discusses suicidal thoughts and behaviors from a holistic and metaphysical perspective where one’s thoughts and behaviors are interpreted as an attempt to realign with one’s intrinsic wellness and reconnect back with the Source of one’s being. Dr. Kemp will share four types of suicidal behaviors that she outlined in her book: "From Psychotherapy to Sacretherapy..." and offer what she has observed during her 18 year career as a psychotherapist. She will offer powerful explanations and interventions that people experiencing these manifestations may employ for relief here in the physical versus needing to transition to achieve the very same relief.

Good Deeds presents Lorelie Rozzano is a recovering addict. She is also a mother, wife, grandmother, foster parent, family counselor, author, small business owner, sister, aunt, daughter and friend.
For Rozzano, a phone call to her parents when she had reached her lowest point, out of work, money and friends due to her addictions, turned things around and brought her to treatment. She has now been living clean and sober for 17 years. It was in treatment that she discovered her strong inner core and learned how to examine her life and behaviors in a brutally honest fashion and to admit just how her addictions had ruled her life for so long.Rozzano now works at the center she sobered up in and is dedicated to helping others with the lifelong struggle against addiction.
And perhaps for someone reading the bleak, painful truths in the Jagged series, Jagged Little Edges, Jagged Little Lies, or on her blog, www.jaggedlittleedges.com there will come a moment of clarity and self-awareness that can help that person also get ready to change. “After all, Rozzano states, if I can get sober, anyone can.”

Do you know that 1 in 8 women suffer from postpartum depression (PPD), according to Postpartum Support International (PSI)?
"Maternal illness is not new. It was recognized as early as the fifth century B.C., when Hippocrates proposed that fluid from the uterus could flow to the head after childbirth and cause delirium. In the Middle Ages, mothers with such symptoms were viewed as witches or victims of witchcraft. " Belluck, P. (2014, June 15). Thinking of Ways to Harm Her. The New York Times. Retrieved from http://www.nytimes.com
We've come a long way in understanding postpartum depression but we still need to work on de-stigmatizing the illness, and raise awareness on what PPD is, and most importantly, we need to implement successful tools to identify women mostly vulnerable to PPD, so treatment can start as soon as possible.
Our guest today is Carly Snyder, M.D. , a psychiatrist in New York City with a focus and expertise in Reproductive Psychiatry.
