Could the Indiana Pacers trade for Rajon Rondo?

    in Basketball

If Rajon Rondo is truly available, there is one team where he'd be such a good fit that it might make the Miami Heat the second choice among oddsmakers to win the NBA title.

And if Larry Bird can get his hands on Rondo, the Indiana Pacers would be that team.

Word was spreading on Twitter yesterday that Celtics GM Danny Ainge was seeking two unprotected first-round draft picks in any deal involving Rondo, and I tweeted my immediate reaction -- the Pacers have probably already made a call to see if that is true

I discussed this possibility even further in this interview with Chris Moore and Brian Jones of CBS Sports Radio, also offering my thoughts on the possibility of Carmelo Anthony and/or Kevin Love getting moved (no and no).

But let's delve into the Rondo to the Pacers possibility, and see if it could make sense for both teams.

_ First, the Celtics would want to move Gerald Wallace's contract in that deal, and the salaries for Rondo and Wallace add up to  $22.06 million.

_ Second, two unprotected first-round picks from the Pacers are not the equivalent of, say, two first-round picks from the Bucks. So my guess would be that Indiana would have to throw in a third first-rounder (and they could not include their 2014 pick, since that is already going to the Phoenix Suns)

_The Celtics would not want any onerous long-term salary commitments in this deal, but they would want a serviceable player if they had to take back a second player aside from Danny Granger ($14.02 million expiring deal). That player could be George Hill, who earns $8 million in each of the next three seasons.

  • Celtics Talk Radio episode 88 The Return of Rajon Rondo

    in Sports

The Celtic's and their fan's had to endure a tough month of December as the Celtics lost to some of the worst teams in the NBA. The Celtic players and fans had to endure losing the last piece of the 2008 NBA Championship and now the team and their fans are enduring one of their toughest months of their schedule and that is the month of January 2015. The Celtic's since our last show have played 3 games. 1 of those games coming against a playoff team with a member of the 2008 NBA title winning team on it. The Dallas Mavericks which is where Rajon Rondo now plays paid thier only trip to the TD Garden this season. The Celtics also faced off with the Bulls and Kings. The Celtics Talk Crew will welcome to the show ADAM LOWENSTEIN. ADAM LOWENSTEIN along with the Celtics Talk Crew will discuss Rajon Rondo's return to the TD Garden. Did Rajon get the same treatment from the fan's and the organization that Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce did when they returned to TD Garden during the 2013/14 season. Or did the reports of Rondo wanting out of Boston cause the fan's to treat him different. How did the Celtic's fair in these 3 games. Did they continue to do what many have called for which is lose, lose, lose and increase their odds in the loterry or are the Celtics still closer to the playoffs then the worst record. All of that will be discussed on Celtics Talk Radios 1st show of 2015

Celtics Talk Radio special episode 48 Rajon Rondo quarterly review

    in Sports

We are now 1/4 of the way through the 2014/15 Boston Celtic Season. On todays show we will discuss as the title says. The play of the Celtic's Captain Rajon Rondo. After missing most of the 2013/14 NBA season with an injury. Rajon Rondo returned at the start of the season this year in what is the final year of his current contract with the Boston Celtic's. Rajon Rondo as well as the Boston Celtic's management have said several times that both sides want to continue the partnership. Manny have said the Celtics should trade Rondo before he hits free agency because hes gonna have many teams gunning for him. While other's feel that Rondo is worth a max contract and that the fact the Celtics hold his larry bird rights it makes it worth keeping him cause trading him means the rebuild will continue and we are sick of rebuilding. So which party is winning the argument right now. Is it the Rondo traitors who feel Rondo isnt worth a max deal. Or is it the Rondo faithful who feel he is worth every penny we give him. The Celtics Talk Crew will discuss the Captains play through the first quarter of the season and see how he is comparing to some of the other elite point guards in the NBA thus far.

    April 22: Champion Or Asinine

    in Sports

With teams from two sports embarking on a journey to be champions, you're sure to get tons of asinine drama. Well both the NBA playoffs and the Stanley Cup playoffs are providing tons to keep Mike "the Buzz-saw" Asti and George "the Howitzer" Gerbo busy.

Before we get to the postseason action, there's some drama stemming from a team already in the midst of their offseason. Scott Brooks has been fired by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Mike and George argue about the future of the Thunder franchise. Mike feels this organization is headed for disaster and isn't even an attractive job anymore. George is keeping the faith. Does this impact the futures of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in OKC? Also, all signs point to Rajon Rondo and the Mavericks parting ways. Why did it get this bad? Can his antics actually be defended? Either way, it's surely fun and entertaining to watch Rondo act a fool.

Is the NBA's Eastern Conference Cleveland's to lose? Are the no star team ball concept Hawks the Cavs toughest test? What about the Wizards? How many teams are true contenders out west? Despite such a great season, will a lack of size eventually be the downfall of Golden State? Do the Clippers have what it takes for a deep playoff run? Has Houston found their best gameplan to win?

The Western Conference is wide open in the NBA, but is it down to only a couple of real threats in the NHL? Does any other west team have a shot at stopping a collision course of Anaheim and Chicago for a chance at the cup? Pavel Datsyuk is the Red Wings savior and the Caps are a bit different this year. Oh and, the Penguins problems go well beyond their play on the ice.

It's the Howitzer and Buzz-saw Show, conquering sports radio, one day, at a time....

NBA Playoffs: Analysis of each series through 4/23

    in Basketball

Through April 23, three series are three games in, while the rest have played two. I'll run through each series to this point, along with some of the headlines that have been created since the playoffs have began, such as the Rajon Rondo saga.

In the Eastern Conference, everything seems to be holding true to form, but I thought Toronto would put up more of a fight.

Out west, it looks like I gave Portland too much credit, while those doubting the San Antonio Spurs should look back at the last five years and simply ask themselves why they thought now was the time the defending champs would crumble.
