Cormega plus Legendary Cyphers and we celebrate our 100th episode!

    in Music

If you've been listening to The NY Hip Hop Report for any of the past 99 episodes, you'll know that we have been discussing all of the hot button issues that are currently the talk of hip hop music and culture.

The balance of old school and new. The legacy and perception of NY hip hop. Problems with commercial rap radio. The terrible state of hip hop journalism. Women in hip hop. Hip hop culture vs. rap music culture.

All while reporting on the events, organizations, artists, releases & issues in the diverse NY hip hop ecosystem.

For more than two years, we have opened our platform to you, and gave you a chance to speak your mind.

    It's been a great run!

For this milestone, we welcome a guest who helps makes our 100th episode feel so special. An artist/advocate who is speaking about these very same issues, through his music & multiple interview appearances, constantly dropping jewels.

Now, he'll join us, the show that uniquely represents New York City hip hop like no other.

Please join us as we welcome Queensbridge veteran, Cormega, fresh off the release of his highly acclaimed album, Mega Philosophy, produced entirely by the iconic Large Professor.

We'll talk with Mega about his project, life & career, the state of "the industry" and its future, to try and glean some vital philosophy.

Later in the show, we'll talk to Majesty, a brother who works with several NY-based hip hop organizations, including the long-running weekly showcase End of the Weak. Majesty will be speaking about the upcoming one year anniversary of Legendary Cyphers, the weekly, outdoor gathering of MCs and hip hop heads that lights up Union Square Park every Friday.

Of course, we'll also bring some new releases to the show, and as always, take your calls.

Tune in, and welcome the start of our next 100 episodes!

That's because Raaddrr Van embodies many qualites that a true emcee should possess. Great lyrical skill, excellent flow, pinpoint timing & delivery, intelligent content all encased within a powerful chrasmatic personality.

Sometimes working with a group works. Sometimes it creates an environment that nurtures creativity and makes everyone involved better at their craft. Sometimes it doesn't. For Illa Ghee, he found his time with Mobb Deep to be more representative of the latter rather than the former which is why he's chosen to distance himself from the Queensbridge team

Many are familar with the voice of this 2X Apollo winning songstress from her many Wu Tang features, most notably with Raekwon on Only Built for Cuban Linx, ("Rainy Dayz") on the original and "Have Mercy" which also featured Beanie Sigel on last year's NYTimes, Itunes & Global Grind hip hop album of the year), but not so with her name...Introducing Blue Raspberry,

Scottscope Talk Radio 6/21/2014: We're Comin' Straight Outta Compton!

    in Entertainment

On this week’s edition of Scottscope Talk Radio, we discuss the upcoming N.W.A biopic/hagiography, Straight Outta Compton!  Will it be any good?  Will it offer fans the untold story behind Hip-Hop’s most dangerous group?  Is the integrity of the project automatically compromised by the direct involvement of Ice Cube and Dr. Dre?  Does F. Gary Gray’s track record suggest that he can handle a film of this magnitude?  Has Notorious set the bar for such a film?  What of the two Tupac biopics that are currently in the works?  Should John Singleton be telling Tupac’s life story?  Will the finished product be something more than just shameless hero worship?  Is Hip-Hop even old enough to have its heroes and icons immortalized in such a manner?

We’ll also be talking about the mysterious new rapper known as Your Old Droog!  Is he Nas in disguise?  Has Queensbridge’s favorite son created yet another alias for himself?  Why is Nas taking so long to speak out on this issue?  Is it an industry wide conspiracy to hide the true identity of this wunderkind?  Are those who claim to have “debunked” this myth actually in on the joke?  If it really isn’t Nas, should that fact negate Droog’s considerable skills?  Are such hoaxes good or bad for Hip-Hop?  Are they mere gimmickry, or cheap publicity stunts?  Are they a fun way to keep fans interested and on their toes
