Good Tidings, folks! Welcome to the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse airing this Saturday at 6pm EST. For the first segment (The Comic Shoppe), listen to your hosts Dburt, Capt. Kirk and the "Uncanny" Daryll B. wax about the following issues: Dburt is incensed that MJ's Neverland Ranch is for sale (100m, allegedly) without being ascribed National Historic Landmark status; a recent Daily Beast article weighs in on the Marvel vs Fox Fantastic Four/X-men licensing beef; and speaking of Fox, it appears that the famed studio is looking to reboot The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen IP; Robert Rodriguez has been reportedly tapped to helm a Jonny Quest live action film (please no Spy Kids interpolation!); we finally get the chance to delve into DC's Convergence vs Marvel's Secret Wars; Image's Wicked+Divine are slated for a TV adaptation; Anyone notice the Nova Corp of color storyline in the latest Infinity Gauntlet comic this week? And lastly, we discuss the Joseph P. Illidge penned Mission/CBR piece on DC's DC You diversity initiative.
And then there's the Afronerd Radio segment starting at 7pm. Listen to Capt. Kirk and Dburt discuss the following: Dburt still has yet another take on how some POC misinterpret "respectability politics"; hypocrisy alert-2016 presidential hopeful and reknowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson appearing on a t-shirt with Dr. King raises eyebrows (I guess past depictions of Biggie/Tupac with various Black political heroes is ok, huh?); a Stanford University study affirms that Black students get punished more harshly than their White counterparts based on unconscious teachers' biases. And lastly, we will attempt to address topics missed from our last broadcast. Call in live at 646-915-9620.
This morning I came across an article thanks to a friend of mine on FB, that really touched me. In the link below you will find the article written by: Romeo Jackson
It is a cry made by so many within our community. One that goes ignored, I've been really busy lately but I would not have felt comfortable not addressing this very real experience.
Celebrating Queer POC through Art: By Gabriel Garcia Roman
At HiMSS 2015 we spent quite a bit of time interviewing in the exhibition hall. From the 2nd Annual Health 2.0 Hour (see interview with Chief Medical Scientist at Sentrian Martin Kohn, MD (@MSKohn) with Matt Holt aka @BoltyBoy to deep dives into the Wolters Kluwer POC Advisor Sepsis module here and here and many stops in between including a swooosh experience down an Alta-like mountain in the Health Catalyst booth we burned some 25+ interviews.
All of them to be posted to Health Innovation Media's video library here.
Meanwhile, availing themselves of all being present 'IRL' in Chicago in the Conversa Health booth, team Conversa was interviewed by my co-host and Chief Product Officer Phil Marshall, MD (@PhilMarshallMD).
Enjoy this lens on HiMSS from a cohort of senior HealthIT experts and entrepreneurs!
Let's really try to keep this close to the vest, folks! Welcome to our latest episode of The Mid Week in Review, courtesy of the Afronerd Radio machine, airing this Wednesday at 7:30pm EST. Join Dburt and Capt. Kirk as they discuss the following issues: that George Zimmerman just can't seem to stay out of trouble which urban media are quick to notice (but is this another case of the unclothed emperor?); an Atlanta Blackstar article highlights the Afrofuturism phenomenon but what is it and why does it have varied interpretations?; Dburt forgot to discuss his recent viewing of Ex Machina; delving into another issue that was left on the studio table-Transracial vs Transgenderism-is one more acceptable than the other; more nonsensical race based stories (HS principal berates Black folk during graduation, young White girls create N-word and lynching referencing rap song, BU professor sends out racially charged tweets against White college males before starting the job and Subway worker loses job for doing what the aforementioned professor did). And lastly, Conservative author/pundit, Ann Coulter believes that apologies for slavery have been given to POC previously in the wake of a recent college graduation commencement speech given by FLOTUS (does she really believe this?). Call the hosts live at 646-915-9620.
This weeks music will be Alpha Blondie of South Africa In trying my best to keep the dialog open between Africans World Wide I have moved the time slot and the days for World Wide Africa the Voice of the Pan African Movement. My show will air Monday's 6pm-6:30pm, Tuesday's 6pm-6:30pm Thursday's 6pm-6:30pm, Friday's 6pm-6:30pm, Saturday's 11am-11:30am and Sunday's 1pm-1:30pm. If you are able to call in on these days please do and let us continue to break the wall of Silence set up in our African Communities that make us venerable to all kinds of madness (646)564-9987. If we continue to study our condition and talk about solutions and implicate those same solutions as best we can in our own parts of the Globe then and only then can we expect changes. But for us to sit around just talking and filming our problems and doing nothing to help change the situations that create the problems in the first place is Hypocritical. So call in and voice your Solutions I will be waiting to hear from all of you, even if it is just on the music.
hy•poc•ri•sy(h?'p?k r? si) n., pl. -sies.1. the false profession of desirable or publicly approved qualities, beliefs, or feelings, esp. a pretense of having virtues, moral principles, or religious beliefs that one does not really possess. You can not pay for the virtues that it takes to be a leader for the people I do not care if you ascend to the position like Goodwill Zwelithini or self appointed and not elected. It is just, immoral to be in the public eye and make your living off the backs of the peoples suffering, never extending a helping hand unless it is profitable to you and causing them more suffering. I am an educator, I receive a salary that is modest and when I can I spend my money in the way of Allah, and towards the education of the people.
Tim Janakos just got back from the worse leg of his 5-plus year all-Japan music tour and he really feels like cancelling the call. But he needs your encouragement this time. What else is possible for this show? What else is possible for Tim's music tour? What else is possible for your life and our interconnection, that goes beyond this show and beyond all the seemingle impossible challenges we face everyday?
Let's call in and find out how to say "Hello to this good bye day."

Greeting to all our long time supporters! Stay tuned as the Afronerd.com/AfronerdRadio.com machine goes through some much needed changes (i.e. an upcoming reorganized web presence). Keeping matters terse, however, join Dburt and Capt. Kirk this Wednesday at 7:30pm as they discuss the following current event laden "fauna": Dburt weighs in a bit heavier on the concept of "respectability politics" and how (in a way) Black folk should move toward this ideology and not away from it; Min. Louis Farrakhan weighs in on Ferguson, MO, unfortunately proving that POC need new ideas; African-American albino male model, Shaun Ross has an interesting perspective on the lack of diversity in fashion; recent polling shows that Black NYers desire increased policing even in the wake of the Eric Garner police brutality case; a Time magazine article about "Negrophobia" elicits a strong twitter response and backlash and lastly, a new HuffPost piece highlights a Northwestern University study that posits that the achievement gap between rich and poor students may close through music education. Call the hosts live at 646-915-9620.
