Dr. Mary Bemker in her return appearance on "Own Your Career" tackles the topic of Social Intelligence.
Social intelligence is the capacity to effectively negotiate complex social relationships and environments. Social intelligence, rather than quantitative intelligence defines humans. Social scientist believe social intelligence is an aggregated measure of self- and social-awareness, evolved social beliefs and attitudes, and a capacity and appetite to manage complex social change. "The ability to understand and manage men and women, boys and girls, to act wisely in human relations". It is equivalent to interpersonal intelligence, one of the types of intelligence identified and closely related to theory of mind. Social intelligence is a person’s competence to understand his or her environment optimally and react appropriately for socially successful conduct.

In this episode I will discuss the importance of knowing your value.
You don’t have to be Sigmund Freud to know that people with low self-esteem frequently demean themselves in their interactions with others. Unfortunately, this is something that frequently requires professional counseling.
I don’t perform psychoanalysis; I prefer that people who have self-esteem issues find solutions by working with their own community of behavioral health care professionals, particularly since there is no longer any stigma attached to seeking psychiatric treatment. This is important because running your career as a business (the CEO of Me, Inc.) relies heavily on your ability to project confident, positive and assertive behaviors. The quicker the treatment for poor self-esteem, the sooner the positive results will become reflected in your career management program.
In this episode of Own Your Career, Rod Colon will cover the basics of being the CEO of Me, Inc ... "Back to Basics"
1. How to manage your career as a business and become the CEO of Me, Inc. Enterprises
2. How to Build, Track and Maintain Your Network
3. How to develop your “Value Proposition” for the business of Me, Inc.
4. How to manage your job search in a 7-Step Process with quality control check points
5. How to leverage and manage the “Hidden Job Market”
As a career strategist, executive recruiter and hiring manager for 25+ years, these positions gave me an unobstructed, 20/20 view of both sides of the interviewer’s desk. I learned a great deal about the mistakes made by candidates applying for jobs as well as the techniques and strategies used by hiring managers to screen those very same candidates.
I wanted to find a way for job seekers like you to reduce that leverage by applying some leverage of your own. I concluded that you needed to grasp, master and integrate four critical skills:
1. Exceptionally effective networking
2. Thinking and acting like the CEO of a large corporation
3. Developing a bulletproof value proposition to make you as attractive as possible to decision-makers, and
4. Expertise at following a precisely-targeted 7-step job search methodology that leads you directly to an interview.
In order to do this, I realized it would be necessary to set up a highly specialized networking and career management training organization.
Welcome to OWN YOUR CAREER!
The term is tossed around a lot and has millions of interpretations. My view of personal branding relates specifically to being the CEO of ME, Inc. and running your career as a business. Branding is all about image and perception and how memorable you are. In this episode of Own Your Career you will have a better perspective on branding you not the company you work for.
