Despite (what seems to be) much evidence to the contrary, we do not have to watch our eyesight get worse and worse as we age. There is something that we can do about it. On this show our guest, Dr. Ray Gottlieb, will introduce the “Read Without Glasses Method”, which is a series of exercises that stimulate the focusing power of our eyes; making them sharper, more flexible and relaxed. Just like any other part of or body, our eyes respond positively to exercise, and this easy to learn, simple to practice method shows us how to keep our near vison as clear and sharp as possible.
Dr. Gottlieb has been an eye doctor for over five decades, with a specialty in vision training and vision therapy. He developed and refined the “Read Without Glasses Method” in his private practice in 1976, and is currently the Dean of the College of Syntonic Optometry. So please join us for this leadiing edge discussion, and have your questions ready for our guest.

“When winning becomes too important, it blurs concern for the way our actions affect others; it necessarily sets up someone on the opposing side who must “lose.” The win/??lose mentality prominent in our society is a symptom of a much larger problem—a spiritual problem, in fact.” - Dr. Margaret Placentra Johnston
After practicing Optometry for over three decades - helping people to see better in the physical world - Dr. Margaret Placentra Johnston now offers clearer vision of a different sort - a broader perspective about religion and spirituality than what the conventional world typically recognizes.
The author of Faith Beyond Belief: Stories of Good People Who Left Their Church Behind, Dr. Johnston feels the spiritual development stages have the power to bring an end to religious intolerance and should be part of the general knowledge of our culture. Faith Beyond Belief has won a number of awards including being named the Gold Winner of the 2013 Nautilus Book Award in Religion/Spirituality. Visit www.FaithBeyondBelief-book.com. Parents — especially those who are nearsighted and had to wear glasses throughout childhood — are often concerned about the causes of myopia and whether their children are doomed to being nearsighted, too.
If this sounds like you, try not to worry too much.
Are your child's eyes getting worse year after year?
Some children who develop myopia (nearsightedness) have a continual progression of their myopia throughout the school years, including high school.
What You Can Do About Myopia Progression
The best thing you can do to help slow the progression of your child's myopia is to schedule annual eye exams so your eye doctor can monitor how much and how fast his or her eyes are changing.
Often, children with myopia don't complain about their vision, so be sure to schedule annual exams even if they say their vision seems fine.
If your child's eyes are changing rapidly or regularly, listen to our next radio show where will discuss this topic and more. We will offer simple suggestions that can go a long way in reducing your child's dependence on stronger eyeglasses/contact lenses every year.
Irlen Syndrome (also referred to at times as Meares-Irlen Syndrome, Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome, and Visual Stress) is a problem with the brain’s ability to process visual information. This problem tends to run in families and is not currently identified by other standardized educational or medical tests. This largely unknown and undiagnosed disorder affects approximately 15% of the general population, 50% of individuals with reading and learning difficulties, 30% of individuals with ADHD and autism, and a significant portion of individuals with brain injury, chronic headaches, and migraines. SIgns of Irlen Syndrome include light sensitivity (bright lights, sunlight, fluorescent lights); headaches or migraines; difficulty or discomfort when reading or doing other visually intensive activities; eye strain; or the print or environment looks different than it should.
Helen Irlen, MA, BCPC, LMFT is a pioneer and global leader in the area of visual processing problems and internationally recognized educator, researcher, and scholar. Ms. Irlen has been in the field of education for over 40 years. Her background includes School Psychologist, Licensed Child and Family Therapist, Educational Therapist, Board Certified Professional Counselor, founder and Director of the Adult Learning Disabilities Program at California State University/Long Beach. Her method for treating visual processing deficits is used in 54 countries. She is the author of Reading By The Colors and The Irlen Revolution: A Guide to Changing Your Perception and Your Life; How a Simple Method Can Change the Lives of Children and Adults with LD, AD/HD, TBI, Dyslexia, Autism, Headaches, Medical Conditions, and Much More.
It’s that time of year again! The seasons are changing and kids are heading back to school, often trading time at the playground or pool for hours in front of a computer screen. But are their eyes equipped to handle the change?
This year, nearly 60 million school-age children will use a computer or digital device for hours a day, and that doesn’t include time spent in front of a TV or gaming system at home. This increased exposure puts them at greater risk for Computer Vision Syndrome, or CVS—a serious condition that can cause back and neck pain, dry eye, and even headaches.
Want more easy tips to prevent CVS? Listen tonight, September 7th at 6:30pm
