Joining me this week is PGA Tour Legend Bobby Nichols. Mr Nichols won the 1964 PGA Championship among his 15 Professional victories. He also finished 2nd in the 1967 Masters and 3rd in the 1962 US Open which was won by Jack Nicklaus in a playoff over Arnold Palmer. It was Jack's first professional win. You may also recall that he and Lee Trevino were struck by lightning at the Western Open in 1975.
This year he was recognized as a Hometown Hero by his home city of Louisville which took place in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of his PGA Championship victory and the event being held this year at Valhalla Country Club located in Louisville.

Today's guest is world renouned golf couse designer Lee Schmidt. We will talk about many of the aspects and considerations that have to be addressed when golf courses are built.
Mr. Schmidt was raised in Indiana and graduated from Purdue University in 1970 with a major in Agronomy. After graduation, he began working for golf architect, Pete Dye, where he was a Design Associate for seven years on many projects including Casa De Campo in the Dominican Republic. Mr. Schmidt was then offered a position as Vice President of Landmark Land Company where, for twelve years, he headed their Golf Course Design and Construction Division.
During that tenure, he worked on such prominent projects as PGA WEST, La Quinta Hotel Resort & Mission Hills Resort. Mr. Schmidt was then offered a position as Senior Design Associate for Nicklaus Design where he gained extensive international experience.
In early 1998, Mr. Schmidt formed Schmidt-Curley Design with Brian Curley. Together, they have built numerous world-renowned golf facilities including Amata Spring Country Club in Chonburi, Thailand, Mission Hills Resort – Haikou (10 courses) Haikou, China, Stone Forest International Country Club, Kunming, China and Clearwater Bay Golf Club, Lingshui, China.
In 2011 Schmidt-Curley Design was named the “#1 Architect in Asia” by Asian Golf Monthly Magazine, and named “Architects of the Year” by Golf Magazine.
Mr. Schmidt was recognized in 2004 by Purdue University as a Distinguished Alumni in the School of Agriculture. Mr. Schmidt is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
