Health risk assessments form the backbone of many wellness programs. Their aim? Provide employers with meaningful data for designing and evaluating wellness programs and provide employees with meaningful data for assessing and tackling individual health risk.
The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation reports in its 2014 Employee Health Benefits Survey that 33% of firms (small and large) offer employees the opportunity to complete an assessment. More than half of these firms offer enticements to boost employees' completion rate, including financial incentives. A much smaller percentage makes completion of an assessment a requirement for benefits enrollment or the lack of participation in a wellness program a penalizable offense when an assessment identifies health risks.
The questions these assessments ask and their voluntary nature when incentives and penalties are used has raised questions within the EEOC, resulting in a number of suits.
This show delves into the intent and value of health risk assessments with guest Dr. Peter Mills, co-founder of nGage Health, an organization specifically focused on creating patient engagement and health management solutions for healthcare providers in order to help them address the new challenges brought by health care reform. Peter was a founding team member at global health management consultancy vielife, acquired by CIGNA in 2006. He has also worked extensively with Minneapolis-based RedBrick Health, helping create some of their market-leading health management solutions.

Ricki Stevenson has served as creative thinker, lead guide and CEO of Black Paris Tours since its inception in 1998. Stevenson, a native of Oakland, California, is a former New York and Bay Area TV/Radio news anchor/reporter and talk show host. Ricki holds the distinction of having worked as a United Nations radio correspondent and as one of the first Black international travel reporters. She holds a master's degree in education and history from Stanford University, with an emphasis on African and African American history. Stevenson says her dream of living in Paris began when her Mother, a former dancer, took her to see Josephine Baker perform when she was three years old. Over the years, her dream was fueled by interviews with some of the famous who fled racism in the US to live or spend time in Paris: Ray Charles, Earth Kitt, artist Lois Mailou Jones and choreographer, Geoffrey Holder. The idea for Black Paris Tours grew out of that dream and her six years work as an international travel reporter.
Dr.George Stewart is an Adult, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who has worked with traumatized foster youth for 30+ years. A graduate of Harvard College and Columbia Medical School, he initially completed his training in Family Medicine at the University of Washington and at UCSF. He then worked as a Family Physician for several years in an impoverished barrio near San Jose, California. He returned to complete his training in Adult and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UC Davis.
Working with Seneca Family of Agencies, a large non-profit providing a variety of mental health services to youth and their families, in various treatment settings in Northern California, he was able to observe repeatedly the overuse of medications with traumatized youth who had behavior problems. He spent much more time tapering youth off of medications than he did prescribing them.
He is extremely pleased that the Mercury News' Series on "Medicating Our Youth" is attracting a lot of attention to a long-neglected population.
D'Anthony was born in 1995 in Oakland, California and is a foster home youth and will share with us his experiences in foster care. He likes making beats and his favorite producer is DJ Mustard. D'Anthony says he "enjoys breathing and waking up every day and thinking God he's alive."
Guests: Investigative Reporter Karen de SA, and Dr. George Stewart Psychiatrist.
For the past four months, the Bay Area News Group has been documenting the alarming use of psychiatric medications in California's foster care system -- and the impact on thousands of vulnerable kids who suffer the consequences.
Here, in Part 5 of our investigative series "Drugging Our Kids," we present a documentary video that gives voice to many of these young people, who say they were silenced during their youth by the powerful drugs.
From Los Angeles to the Bay Area to Humboldt County, reporter Karen de Sá and photographer Dai Sugano interviewed more than 175 people, including dozens of current and former foster youth who were frequently moved and heavily medicated by a system that struggled to manage their complicated childhoods.
Now, there's a growing call for change among former foster youth, psychiatrists, public health nurses and youth advocates. The stories of lost childhoods and remarkable resilience provide compelling lessons on how California can better address their trauma and stop "Drugging Our Kids."
High flight risk Houston Criminal Attorney Percy Lawayne Isgitt was arrested February 26, 2015 for MISAPP / FIDUCIARY / FINANCIAL OVER 200K in Harris County Texas. Percy Isgitt was already facing civil charges for stealing $275,000 from his lifelong family friends the Jordan Family. Isgitt's recent legal troubles include being sued by Amercian Express for $24,000 followed by his wife of 50 years divorcing him in January, the highly public fraud he committed against his best friends and now being arrested. Amanda Brooks and Jill Brenneman have been public about the physical, emotional, sexual and financial crimes against them by Isgitt but Brooks and Brenneman struggled to gain mainstream respect because we are sex workers. Amanda and Jill explain one of Isgitt's probably motives for stealing these funds. In the Spring of 2014, after the funds were stolen, Isgitt hired surveiilance of Jill. The surveillance team eventually beat Jill, who now suffers a terminal medical illness as complications from these beatings. Isgitt has continously attempted to find Amanda Brooks location from friends. If given the chance Isgitt will likely jump bail to Puerto Penasco, Mexico with the assistance of his Phoenix based agent and proxie, a convicted felon private investigator. Vast documentation of Percy's Isgitt's emails to Amanda, and Jill including Brooks documenting the entire case prior to his arrest on her blog "After Hours" Stunning details revealed in this Episode of XXBN

At the request of a regular listener, we are continuing multiple shows on the great Frantz Fanon. We will be continuing our talk on WRETCHED OF THE EARTH, specifically his chapter on THE PITFALLS OF NATIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS.
We could sum it up by saying he MAGNIFICENTLY EXPRESSES the failings of the so-called middle class, but as per our style, we will dissect said chapter & especially apply it to the crisis of stolen Afrikan so-called leadership here in the u.s., but I am sure our international audience will see stricking parallels for their areas as well.
This will be the 6th of many until completion.
