“There is no world!" A Course in Miracles with Robert Rosenthal, M.D.

    in Spirituality

Lesson 132: I loose the world from all I thought it was.

In this segment we will explore Lesson 132, which states, in part:

“This is the central thought the course attempts to teach. Not everyone us ready to accept it, and each one must go as far as he can let himself be led along the road to truth. He will return and go still farther, or perhaps step back a while and then return again.”

This is one of the core concepts of ACIM, and yet one that students find the most difficult to accept. How can there not be a world? I see it, feel it, live and move within it—so does everyone else. To say otherwise is crazy. Or denial.

However, ACIM tells us this is one of our greatest obstacles in remembering our true nature and knowing God. Come join Char and Dr. Bob as they help to untangle this challenging topic and make sense of it.

Dr. Bob joins Charlotte on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 3:00 pm Eastern. Additional commentary is frequently offered from his book, From Plagues to Miracles.

A student of A Course in Miracles since before it was published, Dr. Bob was a close personal friend of Bill Thetford, Ph.D. (Co-Scribe of ACIM) and has served on the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Inner Peace, publisher of the Course, since 1992. He is the author of From Plagues to Miracles: The Transformational Journey of Exodus, From the Slavery of Ego to the Promised Land of Spirit. The book interprets the Biblical story of Exodus as it pertains to the workings of the ego.

    PTSD and Highly Sensitive People

    in Psychology

This episode is being rebroadcast from Michele's original show, "Your Life After Trauma."

How we perceive trauma – and the world – impacts our perception of events and even ourselves. Studies suggest that highly sensitive persons are more prone to PTSD due to the delicate nature of their perceptions. Understanding this can help both survivors and their caregivers navigate post-trauma recovery.

Ane Axford, MS, LMFT, mental health and relationship therapist talks about ‘Highly Sensitive Persons’ from a clinical perspective.

PTSD Recovery: Becoming More Functional Today

    in Psychology

This episode is being rebroadcast from Michele's original show, "Your Life After Trauma."

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can rob a person of the very will to live and prevent a trauma survivor from moving on to creating a meaningful future. PTSD symptoms including flashbacks, avoidance, desensitization, hyper-arousal, and insomnia interfere on a daily basis with a trauma survivor’s ability to function; they are unable to hold down a job, have healthy relationships, and/or demonstrate appropriate self-care.

The main goal of every survivor is to overcome symptoms of PTSD. For some that means learning how to manage symptoms; for others that means eliminating them completely.

No matter the final quest, every survivor wants to know how to become more functional in daily life. Discovering tools for this makes it easier to cope which, in addition to increased functionality, develops more courage, strength and focus for the work of recovery, too.

In this episode of ‘Your Life After Trauma’ we had two guests talking about PTSD Recovery: What You Can Do To Become Functional TODAY. Tonight, our guest, Rev. Dr. Chrys Parker, shares her unique professional perspective.

  • How Pets Help Us Heal In Trauma Recovery

    in Pets

This episode is being rebroadcast from Michele’s original radio show, “Your Life After Trauma.”

The first really positive step Michele took toward her recovery came in the form of deciding to get a puppy. Mired in a deep depression and feeling overwhelmed by symptoms of PTSD didn’t seem like the right time to become a pet owner but she took the plunge and boy, was it the right decision!

Baylee and Michele met when he was just ten weeks old and they’ve been best buddies ever since. They’ve been through a lot together, including her complete recovery from PTSD. Having him around to mitigate the darkness (he’s fabulously funny and has a very emotional and interactive personality) brought a new light into her life that helped her begin to reach outside of her illness and find the necessary strength to heal.

This episode features three guests who discussed pets and their role in post-trauma recovery. Laura Westerfield, founder of Paws and People Assisting Wounded Warriors(ppaWWs), Nick Kutsukos of Elite K9 Academy in Jupiter and Janet Austin, joined Michele to discuss just how much pets can influence your healing journey.
