Since we focus on emerging artists at Music Friday Live!, we thought we would take a look at a prime source of those artists nationally, right here in Los Angeles, the Paramount Academy of Music. Paramount teaches playing and recording all genres of popular music – rock to jazz - with nationally known artists who record and play with headliners offer not only technique but music biz lessons and maybe a few connections. Music Director Carl Restivo who wrote and recorded with Wyclef Jean, and founding CEO Marisa Gariano will join us.
Sin Color is a South Los Angeles -based band that transforms traditional styles of music into pop soundscapes. Driven by the opera-trained voice of lead singer Crisia Regalado and the amazing guitar chops of David Aquino , the band mixes bossa nova, cumbia, and disco with indie pop into danceable beats and memorable hooks. They have played the major clubs in LA, been on NPR and are poised to move on to the next level.
Barbara Evans' career started when she worked on the set of the CBS soap opera "The Guiding Light" where she met Meg Ryan and Marisa Tomei and was immediately bitten by the Hollywood bug. She took off to Europe and succeeded as a professional runway model. While in Europe, she picked up several languages and toured as a vocalist, hosted talk shows, and appeared as an actress on popular TV networks. However, real opportunity knocked at her door when she was offered a once in a lifetime chance to perform for the great tenor Pavarotti. She moved back to the United States and turned music into a full time passion. Barbara charmed legendary producer Quincy Jones with her signature vocals and has shared the stage with Mariah Carey, Michael Bolton, and the Blues Brothers. Her song list consists of a variety of singing styles and languages, including Jazz, Pop, Disco, Motown. and Top 40, all performed with a select group of talented musicians.
The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Celebrity Lizzy Small. She Will Discuss Her Latest Projects.
Elizabeth "Lizzy" Small recently had a major supporting role in the Lionsgate film SPARE PARTS opposite George Lopez, Marisa Tomei and Jamie Lee Curtis. The film is the true-life story of four at-risk high school Hispanic boys who defy the odds by forming a robotics club and competing against some of the nation's top colleges, including MIT. Elizabeth plays the role of "Lizzy," a Cornell student who impresses one of the boys with her knowledge of robotics and wins his affection.
As a performer, she started her professional career with a series regular role on HIP HOP HARRY for Discovery Kids/TLC and she has appeared in over 70 national commercials, music videos and several variety shows. Other notable credits include a guest role on ABC's THE MIDDLE and a supporting role as the Baker Elf in THE SANTA CLAUSE 3: THE ESCAPE CLAUSE opposite Tim Allen. Next, she will star as one of the eight space explorers in the science fiction film ADAM 8.
Her single GRAVITY, which she co-wrote, is available on YouTube and SoundCloud. Her singing and recording interests have broadened and she is now exploring collaborations with top industry professionals. She is a true triple threat, studying dance since an early age and competing and winning countless dance titles nation-wide.
When she's not working or studying her craft, she gives back to the community by hosting and helping at special events for kids and by attending the University of California at Santa Barbara. In 2014, Lizzy served as co-host for the Boy's & Girl's Club "Superstars of the Year" event at the Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Center and performed her single Gravity at the same event this year.

Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) join forces once again as the volatile pair come together in an attempt to save the Empire. This comes just after Mimi (Marisa Tomei) makes a motion to remove Lucious as CEO of the label.
The backstabbing move is shocking for Lucious who just recently made a play for Swiftstream, the music-streaming service he’s been working to acquire all season. The move is another step as Lucious tries to become the most dominant figure in the entire music world. However, the mogul’s ego comes crashing back down after Mimi’s motion and, now, even his future within Empire is up in the air.
Meanwhile, Hakeem’s (Bryshere Y. Gray) love life continues to be a bit of a disaster. He’s still in a relationship with Laura (Jamila Velazquez), unaware that Anika (Grace Gealey) is pregnant with his child and, for good measure, Camilla (Naomi Campbell) is back. That’s a lot for anyone to deal with, let alone a guy who is still dealing with the repercussions of being kidnapped.
As for Jamal (Jussie Smollett), the final moments of last week’s episode – you remember, he kissed Skye (Alicia Keys) – will continue to have a major impact on him. Jamal’s sexuality has been a major point of the entire show and plenty of viewers were, understandably, confused with last week’s turn.
See, we promised there would be drama.
