The Marijuana Odyssey of Cheri Sicard

    in News

Had someone told Cheri Sicard back in back in 1996, when California’s Prop 215 first legalized marijuana for medicinal use, that she would become entrenched in the cannabis movement and become a well known marijuana activist, she would not have believed them.  Other than the rare toke at a party, Cheri didn’t use marijuana.  It wasn’t until she was in her late 30’s when her doctor suggested she try cannabis to help with a chronic medical problem, that the herb became a permanent fixture in her life.

In the course of about 6 months Cheri went from the typical closeted American marijuana smoker to an outspoken cannabis advocate, and she hasn’t looked back since.  She works with numerous marijuana reform groups and can frequently be found organizing rallies, speaking at city council meetings, and giving classes on various aspects of marijuana, as well as advocating for clemency efforts for prisoners serving life sentences for nonviolent marijuana offenses.

Cheri’s Cannabis Gourmet Cookbook (2012, Z-Dog Media) is one of the most popular and well reviewed books of its kind.  Her new book, Mary Jane: The Complete Marijuana Handbook for Women (Seal Press) has been garnering great reviews in the world of cannabis and in the mainstream press as well.

Prior to entering the world of cannabis, Cheri worked as a professional writer, recipe developer, and internet entrepreneur.  Her passions for patriotism and country can be found in her earlier books  The Great American Handbook (2002 Berkley Trade Editions); U.S. Citizenship for Dummies (2003 Wiley); and Everyday American (2008 Bookspan).

Going back even further, Cheri spent her childhood and early adult years as a professional circus performer, magician and mentalist, jobs that allowed her to travel extensively around the country and the world.

  • The Trials, Tribulations and Music of Lynette Shaw

    in News

In 1991 Lynette began distributing marijuana to patients with Dennis Peron at his legendary Compassion Club in San Francisco. After the passage of Prop. 215, she began working with the Chief of Police of Fairfax, eventually opening in 1997 the first legal licensed medical marijuana dispensary anywhere in the world.

With the town’s blessings, she operated her medical marijuana dispensary with no problems until she was targeted by the Department of Justice. Fighting asset forfeiture all the way to the Supreme Court, she was eventually forced to close the club and had all her assets seized including her social security benefits.

Even though the town of Fairfax wants her to reopen, she is still prevented by court order from opening a new dispensary. She is now going back to Federal Court attempting to have the injunction dissolved.

Before getting involved with medical marijuana, Lynette had dropped out of college and went to Hollywood hoping to be discovered for her singing talents. For three months she was a backup singer with the Blues Brothers and was slated to sign a contract with them when John Belushi died of a heroin overdose.

As Lynette had provided marijuana to the band, she was suspected of being an accessory in his death and became the focal point of a murder investigation that was eventually dropped.

Lynette had a “blues epiphany” in 2006 and went back to her musical roots in blues and rock and roll eventually releasing a CD in 2003 with her new group the Bluesetta Band. Entitled 4 Pot Peace, the album contains 10 original songs, every one of them about marijuana.

On the show, we will be talking with Lynette about her work in the early days of the movement and the trials and tribulations that led up to her current court battles. Plus we will be chatting about her musical career, the Blue Brothers moments and play some cuts from her 2003 CD 4 Pot Peace.

  • MARIJUANA HAPPY WITH JOHNNY KUSH HOUR LIVE

    in Comedy

After months of negotiations — which the leader of one of the groups characterized as a sham — failed to achieve a compromise, animosity between Legalize Maine and the Marijuana Policy Project made its way to the streets and storefronts of Portland, as the two organizations each work to gather more than 60,000 signatures required to place their questions on the November 2016 ballot.

    Homegrown versus Washington

The president of Legalize Maine, Paul McCarrier said the Marijuana Policy Project and its local affiliate, Regulate Maine, are resorting to Washington-style political tactics that include spreading misinformation, vague threats and bad talking when interacting with his group.

“We were really hoping that they would work with us, adopt our language and be the heroes of this state by giving the locals the power,” McCarrier said.

    Health Reform Monday

    in Christianity

December 10, 1871, I was again shown that the health reform is one branch of the great work which is to fit a people for the coming of the Lord. It is as closely connected with the third angel’s message as the hand is with the body. The law of ten commandments has been lightly regarded by man; but the Lord would not come to punish the transgressors of that law without first sending them a message of warning. The third angel proclaims that message. Had men ever been obedient to the law of ten commandments, carrying out in their lives the principles of those precepts, the curse of disease now flooding the world would not be.

Men and women cannot violate natural law by indulging depraved appetite and lustful passions, and not violate the law of God. Therefore He has permitted the light of health reform to shine upon us, that we may see our sin in violating the laws which He has established in our being. All our enjoyment or suffering may be traced to obedience or transgression of natural law. Our gracious heavenly Father sees the deplorable condition of men, who, some knowingly but many ignorantly, are living in violation of the laws that He has established. And in love and pity to the race, He causes the light to shine upon health reform. He publishes His law, and the penalty that will follow the transgression of it, that all may learn, and be careful to live in harmony with natural law. He proclaims His law so distinctly, and makes it so prominent, that it is like a city set on a hill. All accountable beings can understand it if they will. Idiots will not be responsible. To make plain natural law, and urge the obedience of it, is the work that accompanies the third angel’s message, to prepare a people for the coming of the Lord.

The Lord Tommy L. Hart thought it good to show the law again. You must know what is expected of you. Romans 7:12 says the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Romans 2:15 says, show thhe work of the law.
