Sammy Kershaw's brand new album I Won't Back Down (Cleopatra Records) - released June 9, 2015 - features the cover songs Take A Letter Maria and the Tom Petty title track. The first single is called Grillin' and Chillin'. The album also features the love song Groove written by Sudbury, Ontario's Gil Grand and Texan Adam Fears.
Country fans know and love Sammy's chart-topping Country hits over the years including "Cadillac Style", "Don't Go Near The Water", "She Don't Know She's Beautiful", "Queen Of My Double Wide Trailer" - and the list goes on.
In 2014, Kershaw - a Louisiana native - released "Do You Know Me? A Tribute To George Jones." The two were close friends and recorded the country hit Never Bit A Bullet Like This in 1994.
"George Jones was the greatest country soul singer that ever lived, and he was my hero and my friend. I’ve known George since I was 14 years old, we were friends for over 40 years. I loved the guy, and still do. I miss him every day, and it was just an honor and a privilege (to record this tribute album)."
Sammy's song Louisiana Hot Sauce was used on the TV show True Blood in 2009 and quickly gave him a new audience who went online at the time to find the song.
“Sammy Kershaw is one of those voices that you know the moment you hear it. We at Cleopatra are excited to work with an artist of Sammy’s caliber,” says Cleopatra Records President Tim Yasui.
Tune in to hear Sammy chat with me about his new album, George Jones, Cadillac Style, touring Canada, the song he wish he had recorded and much more!

In this episode of The Red Light Sports Ramble; preseneted by The Red Light Sports Network, Evan Witalison and Troy Otradovec will go back to the traditional 50/50 Friday show. They spend half the show talking about the MLB awards. The biggest debate will be whetehr Clayton Kershaw was deserving of both the Cy Young and the MVP. Some argue that the MVP should be a position player award, and a pitcher should not win both. Buck Showalter was the AL Manager of the Year, while Matt Williams claimed the same award, in the NL. Mike Trout received all of the first place votes, to win the American League MVP.
The NFL rolls into week 11. There are three games that should be enjoyable to watch. The Detroit Lions travel to Arizona, as the division leaders battle head to head. Who needs to win this game? Do the Lions need to prove that they deserve to be recognized? Do the Cardinals need to win to prove that their is hope, with Carson Palmer out. The Eagles travel to Lambeau Field, to take on the Packers. Mark Sanchez will have a tougher test, than he did on Monday night. The Patriots take on the Indianapolis Colts, as two more division leaders battle. Could this be a possible playoff preview? Listen in and call the show, let us know if you agree with the MLB awards, and what NFL games are most intriuging to you.
The Chicago Cubs did not make the World Series, but they have been reeling in the MLB awards. Joe Maddon was named NL manager of the year. Mike Matheny finished second in the voting 37 points behind Maddon. Terry Collins, who led the New York Mets to the World Series, finished third. First year manager Jeff Bannister was named AL manager of the year. A.J. Hinch, who rejuvinated the Houston Astros franchise finised second. Minnesota Twins manager Paul Molitor rounded out the top three.
Unanimously, Kris Bryant won the NL rookie of the year award. Bryant became the 11th player in MLB history to win the award by unanimous decision. Matt Duffy of the San Francisco Giants finished second, while Pittsburgh Pirates Jung Ho Kang finished third. In a much closer race, Carlos Correa edged out Francisco Lindor for the AL rookie of the year.
The most interesting race was for the NL Cy Young award. Jake Arrieta edged out Zack Greinke by receiving 17 of the 30 first place votes. Greinke received 10 and Clayton Kershaw had three votes. Dallas Keuchel had a hold on the AL Cy Young most of the year and received 22 of the 30 first place votes. David Price finished second in the voting, 43 points behind Keuchel. No other AL pitcher received a first place vote.
Kris Bryant is your NL Rookie of the Year. Joe Maddon is your NL Manager of the Year. And your NL Cy Young Award winner? Jake Arrieta. The Chicago Cubs have swept through this week's MLB awards. So let's look at just how deserving these winners are, and what this can do for the team moving forward.

The New York Mets and Los Angles Dodgers began their playoff series in LA on Friday. The Mets, behind Jacob deGrom gritted out a hard fought 3-1 victory over Clayton Kershaw as both pitchers were dominate yet the Mets got a big hit from the Captain (David Wright).
Game 2 started with a bang from the Mets against Zack Greinke and a 2-0 lead. The game would end in a 5-2 victory for the LA Dodgers covered with controversy as Chase Utley "slid" into second base attempting to break up a double play opportunity for the Mets. Utley ended up, up ending Ruben Tejada and breaking his leg while Tejada missed the bag after review. Dirty play? Illegal "slide"? Should interference have been called? Or did the umpires and replay officials get it right?

The Cubs beat their rival Cardinals in the NLDS 3 games to 1, thanks to a combination of bullpen execution and multiple home runs. Can they keep it up in the NLCS where they await either the Dodgers or Mets? And on the 12th anniversary of the 2003 NLCS Game 6 collapse, has the city of Chicago moved past the Steve Bartman hate and scapegoating? Do Cubs fans really deserve to win after the way they treated one of their own?
