Olympic Beach Volleyball Legend Kerri Walsh Jennings

    in Business

Today on the BeachLifestyle Radio Show, Host Neil Haley The Total Tutor will interview Olympic Legend Kerri Walsh Jennings!

    Kerri Walsh Jennings

“Six feet of Sunshine”, Kerri Walsh-Jennings is considered one of the best female athletes ever to play beach volleyball. Since she first starting playing beach in 2001, Walsh and partner Misty May-Treanor have set the standard for what it takes to be the best in the sport, winning an unprecedented three-straight Olympic Gold Medals (2004, 2008, 2012). In 2012, competing together for the final time internationally, Walsh and May-Treanor dropped only one set during the London Olympics on their way to defeating fellow Americans Jennifer Kessy and April Ross in the gold medal match.

During the course of three Olympic games, that lone set in London is the only one they’ve ever dropped, having previously won 140 straight.  Between 2003 and 2004, the duo put together one of the most impressive winning streaks in professional sports history; winning 89 straight matches on the AVP Tour and the international circuit. In 2007, her 20 wins (domestic and international) tied her with May-Treanor for the most wins in a single season. In 2008, the duo broke their own records by winning 112 matches in a row and 19 consecutive tournaments.

Walsh is a two-time AVP MVP (2003, 2004) and part of the Tour’s Team of the Year for five straight seasons (2004-08). She has also been named AVP Best Offensive Player in 2003. For the third straight season in 2007, she was chosen at the FIVB’s best hitter, best blocker and sportsperson in addition to collecting the Best Offensive and Most Outstanding Player awards.

The Kerri Edelman Show presents Cinematic Hard Rock Band Starset

    in Rock Music

In the early hours of New Years Day 2013, a radio astronomer at the Allen Telescope Array in Northern California discovered a mysterious signal emanating from a star within the Ophiuchus Constellation. Contained within the signal was a Message--of human origin--foretelling the details of man's imminent demise. The Message was brought to The Starset Society, who quickly realized the importance of its immediate publication. Risking extreme danger, The Starset Society commissioned a group of musicians and scientists to assist them in spreading the knowledge to a broader audience. This group became known simply as STARSET. STARSET describes their music as cinematic rock. The band originate from Columbus, Ohio and was formed by lead singer Dustin Bates of Downplay. The band has released two singles including 'My Demons' and 'Carnivore. In the summer of 2014, the band released their debut album ‘Transmissions,’ which is now available. The Kerri Edelman Show presents Hard Rock/Metal Band Nonpoint

    in Rock Music

Nonpoint released their new studio album, The Return on September 30th 2014 via Razor & Tie.  The album was produced by Grammy nominated producer Johnny K (Disturbed, Staind, Megadeth) and Daniel Salcidoto. Nonpoint vocalist Elias Soriano explains, “Last record we stepped in a direction we've wanted to for years and our fans revered us for it.  This record we have gotten up to speed and dropped the pedal to the floor.  I think our fans will embrace this record in a way no other Nonpoint record has been viewed or loved.  We left no room for question of what we are trying to accomplish with our music or who we are. We haven't gone back to old school.  We didn't reflect on our past.  We didn't discuss what works. We are not "Statement" Nonpoint or even "Bullet" Nonpoint...... "The Return" is Nonpoint right now." Formed in 1997, Nonpoint has since released seven full-length albums and one live album selling over 800,000 albums in North America.  In late 2013, Nonpoint closed out a year of touring behind 2012’s self-titled record, which yielded the Active Rock radio hit “Left For You.” With over a decade of extensive road work under their belts, the band has toured with All That Remains, Mudvayne, Papa Roach, Sevendust, Disturbed, Flyleaf, Buckcherry, Drowning Pool, Stone Sour, and Hell Yeah and graced the stages of Ozzfest, Rock On The Range and Summerfest.  Now in 2014, their eighth full-length album The Return remains as raw, ripping, and real as these musicians—Elias Soriano [vocals], Robb Rivera [drums], Rasheed Thomas [guitar], Adam Woloszyn [bass], and B.C. Kochmit [guitar]. Pick up a copy of their amazing new album 'The Return' now featuring the hit single 'Breaking Skin.' For more information, visit nonpoint.com

The Kerri Edelman Show presents Hard Rock/Nu-Metal Band Islander

    in Rock Music

It has been quite a journey for ISLANDER, who, in just over a year, have gone from obscurity to a band in constant radio rotation. Fueled with a combination of emotionally capturing songs and audience grabbing live shows, ISLANDER continue to lead at the forefront of their peers. The thrilling trip for this quartet began in the foothills of Greenville, S.C. with the release of their Victory Records debut Pains in 2013. Now, a lethal combination of alt-rock, punk and nu-metal that recalls the finest of bands like Refused and Deftones, ISLANDER have released their full length Violence & Destruction to critical recognition. Comprised of members Mikey Carvajal on vocals, Andrew Murphy on guitar, drummer Eric Frazier and bassist Chris Doot, ISLANDER recorded the album with producer Cameron Webb (SILVERSTEIN, ALKALINE TRIO) at Hollywood's NRG Studios. It is twelve tracks of American rock anthems spawned by individual struggle and organic affection. The result is a refreshing and unpredictable performance of cutting edge, modern-day rock with classic punk overtones fused with groove laden beats. Violence & Destruction awakens the nerves and lets life in. From the blockbuster single 'Coconut Dracula', to the outlaw collaboration of 'Criminals' with P.O.D.'s Sonny Sandoval and the fist-pumping title track, ISLANDER sonically 'demonstrate that fragile dichotomy between softness and weight in a riff', as described by Noisey/Vice. Alternative Press confirmed that ISLANDER was one the '100 Bands You Need To Know' as 2014 continues to shine with festival confirmations at Aftershock in Sacramento and Louder Than Life in Louisville. The Kerri Edelman Show presents Comedian Darik Santos

    in Comedy

Darik Santos was featured on this year's season of Americas Got Talent on NBC, and made it to the quarter finals to perform at Radio City Music Hall.  He lives in Connecticut, and has been performing his own brand of stand-up "comedy" for a little over three years. One-liners and an awkward personality make up this enigma wrapped in a conundrum. Darik has performed all over the east coast including Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut and New Hampshire. He's never won any contests or awards and probably never will, but his jokes are hugs for your ears and that is a magical award within itself! Xmas show cocreating with Phyllis Walsh about her book The Illusion of Mortality

    in Spirituality

This week Jennifer co-creates with Phyllis Walsh by hearing about her newly released book, The Illusion of Mortality.  Phyllis wrote this book after receiving a number of communications, after the tragic passing of her husband Owen, in 2006. Phyllis was left to bring up her two children who were then aged 3 and 9.  Phyllis explains to us in this interview, about her feelings of despair but also how this experience over the course of time, turned into a journey of spiritual exploration.

Phyllis was raised within the Catholic Church and as a child she never questioned her religion.   The book is not religious in essence but it does explore spirituality, along with Phyllis' own research into the "paranormal".  On reflection, she has found her experiences to be unusual but in someway very comforting and she wants to reach out to others with this book to help them come through their grief in the belief that our soul is eternal.

This is a brilliant and interesting interview so please make time to listen.  It will help so many to her Phyllis' words particularly at this time of year.
