Jori Nunes- The Author of Chocolate Flowers

    in Self Help

As an adult survivor of sexual abuse her birth parents as well as a mother of a molested son, the Author has not only lived to tell her story but after twenty years of researching this topic for a complete understanding by interviewing pedophiles and victims of sexual crimes has gathered the information and memories together with the amazing ability to write one twisted tale for awareness and prevention of a silent crisis that effects about 20% of our children in hopes that no other parent or caregiver will have to go through the devastating consequences of coping with the unimaginable emotional life sentence that sexual abuse causes to the victim as well as the parent or caregiver. Chocolate Flowers was written with love however, it is not an easy story to read as it is disturbing and can make the reader emotional just enough to change the way you think and feel about the topic of emotional and sexual child abuse in hopes to help detect and prevent it from ever happening to another child. This is a tale you will not want to put down and will never forget.

Jori’s novel is heartwrenching and raw – a no holds barred story of abuse, falling down, and then getting back up and fighting for one’s self and the one’s we love. Jori will share with us her own story of abuse and how she also coped when she discovered her son was being abused by a trusted friend.

    in Self Help

Tonight's special guest is Jori Nunes from Modesto, California, a sex abuse survivor and author of the new book "Chocolate Flowers: A Twisted Tale That Deserves to be Told" which was written for awareness to help understand and protect children. Jori says, "I have 2 counties in California now using the book as mandatory training for people who have to renew their credential's like CPS, foster care parents, social workers." She continues, "The Lisa project is a scientific exhibit in CA and they buy it in bulk at cost and keep the proceeds which is fine with me. I am just a small fish in big sea with a huge story that makes a ton of sense." As a survivor of sexual abuse by her birth parents as well as being a mother of a molested son, Jori has not only lived to tell her story but has spent twenty years researching this topic by interviewing pedophiles and victims of sexual crimes. She has gathered the information and memories together with the amazing ability to write one twisted tale for awareness and prevention of a silent crisis that effects about 20% of our children. "Chocolate Flowers" was written with love however. It is not an easy story to read as it is disturbing and can make readers become emotional just enough to change the way they think and feel about the topic of emotional and sexual child abuse. Jori hopes the book will help detect and prevent such abuse from ever happening to another child. This is a tale you will not want to put down, and will never forget.

    GETTING OVER IT

    in Women

Jori Nunes is the author of Chocolate Flowers a difficult book for her to write emotionally; but it’s a story she always knew she needed to write, it is book about severe childhood abuse, a topic that most people feel comfortable discussing.

Jori grew up knowing her parents were both ‘different’ and as she aged she learned that the difference was due to mental illness.  Jori saw her mother suffer horrible beatings from her father. Jori herself was sexually, emotionally and physically abused and she tried to make sense of the confusion of having disturbed parents.

The reason Jori wrote this courageous book Chocolate Flowers was because she wanted to ‘GET OVER’ her own depression, understand her past and to help readers learn to protect their own children. She uses her knowledge and experience as she shares what’s in her heart in hopes that she is able to raise awareness on this important and critical subject. Her greatest wish is abuse of any kind is never again perpetrated on another innocent child.

INCLUSION: NO ONE DENIED Presents "Ableism, Alive and Well"

    in Spirituality

Over the past few weeks we have preached about Jacob wrestling with the Angel of the Lord and though walking away limping, he nevertheless was blessed, becoming, the Father of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. We also, spoke on the topic of "The Cost of Discipleship". In that message we discussed the Godly commission that He has placed on everyone who calls Him Lord; that is, we are to care for one another, share with one another and earnestly, love one another, especially the disenfranchized among us.

This week we are going to return to our general theme concerning society's traditionally negative atitude towards people with disabilities. Ableism (the belief that people with disabilities are inferior to those who consider themselves "able-bodied") is very much alive in the 21st century.

I read a story this weekend that proved that prejudice, discrimination and even hatred towards the disabled is by no means a thing of the past. The news story was about a father who had a 7 year old son with Cerebral Palsy. This "man" despised his son so much that he physically and emotionally abused the boy everyday of his life, referring to him not by his given name, Jori, but rather, calling him "dummy". He even used that derogatory name when being questioned by the police; but I am ahead of myself. The story goes that this "man" took his wheelchair bound son into the kitchen and killed the boy by beheading and dismembering him with a meat cleaver. He then left the decapitated head by the roadside, outside his Louisiana home, so that the boy's mother would find it.
