Where does one begin with a vocalist of this ability - and magnitude? Are they the same in the case of Indra Rios-Moore? Born in the Lower East Side of New York, Indra's Puerto Rican Mom (who named her after a Hindu deity of sky and rain) would keep her indoors. She was afraid of the dangers OUTSIDE. So, little Indra would entertain herself with Mom's vast collection of Rock, Soul and Jazz - that latter, we're supposing, partly influenced by Indra's Dad. Of African-American/Syrian descent - a Jazz bassist: Donald Moore.
Through her teen years, Indra found herself in fascinating evolution. She had truly been fearful of being on stage - and she was working through that. Also, because of the early promise that Indra had shown regarding her talent, she was studying classical arias - as well as American Folk songs at camp. Combined with what was already immersed as inspiration as a child, her inner repertoire expanded.
At 26, she met Danish Jazz saxophonist, Benjamin Traerup. A year later, they were married and living in Denmark. And Indra's career began to take shape. Benjamin and his transplanted wife formed a trio - with bassist, Thomas Sejthen. The attention that they received translated into accolades, nominations, and then a gift: the Danish Music Award for Best Jazz Vocal. Three albums later, Indra is continuing to receive praise. Her voice and the Hybrid sensibility that has always been part of her soul couldn't have arrived at a better time.
When you hear "Heartland", you will hear the echoes of the past (Motown and Pink Floyd). You'll hear multiple languages. And you'll feel Church. As Indra has said: singing helps her move to an emotional place "where the mind doesn't interfere."
Our No Interference Chat Room awaits :)
This will not be the first time that EC3 has visited our show. Every time he drops by, there is always exciting news to share! And this time is no different - but let's back track....
EC was born in Naples, the son of a respected tenor saxophonist, composer and arranger. Early in his life, little Ernest must have decided to follow in his Dad's footsteps. He was the youngest graduate of the Naval School of Music - and he flew from there! There was work to be had in Los Angeles, but the call of Las Vegas proved to be a turning point in this drummer's career. EC met Vincent Falcone, who had been Frank Sinatra's legendary pianist. And he met Loretta Holloway, a much respected vocalist - who was looking for someone just like our guest. EC became Ms. Holloway's Music Director - and shouldered some huge shows with her for over 12 years. It was common to share the stage with Don Rickles, Jay Leno and David Brenner, among many others.
One of the biggest introductions that EC ever had was when he met bass master, Al McKibbon. Al and EC had a connection that lasted for years. Because of their intense working relationship - sometimes via 18 shows a week! - our Friend developed a fabulous set of career and life skills that have stayed with him. And that has most certainly helped with the creation of his multiple projects. When we first met EC, he was making the rounds of various venues in support of his "Her Eyes at Sunset." Then, it was "It's All About the Rhythm." Now, there's a new set of tunes - very much in the swinging, sassy, and Jazz-loving EC3 style. It's called "My Rhythmic Point of View" and it's going to make you get UP and bossa your socks off ;) We've got our talented visitor in-house to tell us all about it - on 10/6 - join us!
Join us for our converstaion with Tonya Comer of Tonya Comer Interiors. We will talk about art, fashion, design, community and entrepreneurship.

What a time to have an episode of "Hybrid Jazz" - it's the beginning of Autumn, the start of Libra, it's Yom Kippur, and the Pope is in the USA :) How do we celebrate? HALIE LOREN!
This Alaskan-born award-winner has had quite a journey - and she is still so young! She made her performing debut at 10, her family moved to Oregon three years later - and she won accolades for her songwriting when she was still a TEEN!
Halie also had the maturity to live in Nashville for a time, soaking up the music wisdom of the city and learning the ropes of the business - before she headed back to Oregon for continued education. She has never STOPPED pursuing her education, in terms of perfecting her craft. Already blessed with a unique and distinctive way of interpretation, Halie is also extraordinarily smart. She knew early in her career that overseas audiences embraced her, so she has made it a point to release her music there first - the USA is catching up!
Her debut in 2006 generated MUCH interest. Her sophomore project, "They Oughtta Write a Song" won an Just Plan Folks (Independent) Award for Best Jazz Vocal. And it was the second-highest selling album in Japan. Halie's name is actually known all over the world - because of smart distribution and the attraction of sophisticated audiences to a true talent. When you hear "Butterfly Blue", you'll know HOW true :)
Amy Shook is a joyful "last minute" guest - and it's because of one very special reason. She is a major component of Diva Jazz - in trio - the musical unit for the Maurice Hines production of "Tappin' Thru Life!" They're at the Delaware Theatre Company in Wilmington and it's BUZZING! Amy has played the White House twice, so you KNOW ;) Bass Goddess join us in the third hour - see you in Chat!

Mariea Antoinette is a rare and beautiful bird....a courageous torch bearer and new pioneer for the harp. When we first met, some years ago at Berks Jazz, this radio host was struck by her serenity. Her performance with the group, Jazz in Pink, was beyond stellar. Which makes her music that much more authentic. It rings of new truth. Exciting beginnings. A blend of elegance, sweet soulfulness, classical and the best of Pop and Jazz hybridity. How this amazing woman is able to make her fingers fly to deliver a musical message is beyond what most of us can fathom :-O
Mariea is a San Diego native, fully entrenched in the atmosphere of sun, sky and sea. She ventured into Arizona for her Masters in Harp Performance - and has been all over the world - but San Diego is her base. It suits her well. She has played at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Southeast Symphony Orchestra - as principal harpist - since 2007.
Her performances have placed her in front of the President and First Lady, Mary J. Blige and Jamie Foxx (a huge Grammy celebration), "Vanity Fair" Magazine, Ne-Yo, U.S. Attorney General Kamala Harris, and a LITANY of other events and super stars :)
Our guest - visitng at four p.m. Eastern, one p.m. Pacific - credits a special teacher for her expertise. The Russian artist, Elena Mashkovtsena. The tools that Mariea was given have taken her to places that she probably never expected to see. But maybe she did - there is an assurance about her that tells you that ANYTHING is possible. Her commitment is this: to break the boundaries for the harp. To enable the instrument to become "front and center." If anyone can do this, it's Ms. Antoinette. One listen to her new album, "Straight From the Harp", and you'll believe that she can F-L-Y. That Beautiful Bird is SOARING!
