Repurposing Items To Be Fit and Fabulous

    in Self Help

Are you on a budget yet want to be able to bend over and tie your shoelaces?  Do you want to have the energy to do the things you love without the cost of  a gym membership? Join me and my guest Agnes C. Davis as she shares ways we can be fit using items we have in our home.

Six years ago, Agnes C. Davis was wrongfully terminated from her job at a top New York City hospital and had to reinvent her professional and personal life. She was broken, broke depressed and overweight. Davis fought hard to get her job back and fought harder to maintain her sanity and get the weight off. Working out at home was her medicine of choice.

These days, Davis, is healthy, fit, fabulous and the CEO of swim swim swim I SAY (http://www.swimswimswimisay.com), and a full-time cardiovascular perfusionist at a top New York City hospital. Agnes worked beside Dr. Mehmet Oz in the operating room for four years operating the heart machine during his surgeries and transplants. Davis is a passionate warrior for living life, having fun and making a difference. “I don’t go to the gym, all the equipment to save your life and heart is in your house. Stick to a plan/vision, commitment, exercise and repetition,” says Agnes.

    Living with Multiple Myeloma

    in Health

What does it mean to "empower" a patient?

Jack Aiello of San Jose, California is a leading patient-advocate in multiple myeloma. In January of 1995 Jack had a terrible backache. He was  diagnosed with multiple myeloma through a blood test.  Since that time Jack has had stem cell transplants that have brought him to remission, even if only for a short time.  Mr. Aiello's spirit remains high and to quote him "I certainly don't want anyone to feel bad for me. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be alive…have seen 2 daughters graduate with Master's and Bachelor's degrees, and my youngest son graduate from UCLA in 2006 in music education. One daughter does breast cancer research, another trains dolphins and my son teaches high school music. We've taken some wonderful family & friends vacations, and I'm getting more involved with some cancer organizations. I'm able to do volunteer work for the International Myeloma Foundation, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, all of whom provide research dollars and education programs for Multiple Myeloma."

The Yehudah Project: The age of the Hybrid beings? Pagan Easter Sunday!

    in Culture

Hybrid generally refers to any offspring resulting from the breeding of two genetically distinct individuals, which usually will result in a high degree of heterozygosity, though hybrid and heterozygous are not, strictly speaking, synonymous. a genetic hybrid carries two different alleles of the same gene.. A hybrid, also known as cross breed, is the result of mixing, through sexual reproduction, two animals or plants of different breeds, varieties, species or genera.Mule, a cross of female horse and a male donkey. Hinny, a cross between a female donkey and a male horse. Mule and hinny are examples of reciprocal hybrids.

Chimeras (which in Greek mythology are fire-breathing hybrid creatures) are created by adding human cells to animal embryos, which are then implanted into a host for gestation. To grow human organs, for example, scientists could engineer an embryo so it is missing a specific organ.  Labs in the US are growing human-animal hybrids that could one day be used to grow organs for transplants. The idea of human-animal chimeras is not new – in 2003, scientists in China announcing they had successfully fused human cells with rabbit eggs. Crispr- Gene editing technologies, including CRISPR-Cas9, now offer us the ability to directly modify or correct the underlying disease-associated changes in our genome. We now have the ability to change your DNA!
